Funny things your LO says

So B has a few B-isms that I find hilarious and no one would ever get unless they were me or MH....

Everything liquid is Milk. (Mowl) - Water, Milk, the plant waterer, the dirty water from mopping the floor.  Coffee is "mommy's mowl"

All writing utensils are referred to as "yewwow"  (Yellow).  Apparently she has gotten this color confused with things you write with.  Pens, chalk, markers... all "yewwow"

What are some things your kids say that only you know what they mean.

Re: Funny things your LO says

  • I posted a video of DD on FB the other day saying "not a toy!"  No one could understand her but my mom always says that to her.  When I ask "What does Bubbles' say?"  DD says "Not a toy!"

She also picked up "no peeking" from story hour at the library and always says that, for no particular reason.

  • "Bock!" means that DD wants to go to the park or go outside. It is the first thing she says every morning. She says it when she puts on her shoes. She also points out all "bocks" as we drive or walk past them. She will keep saying "bock" until we acknowledge her.

DD's favorite bear is named Ben. She also has a buddy/boyfriend (he kisses and hugs her everyday) at daycare named Ben. So, in addition to "bock" we get a lot of requests for Ben at our house. Then she has to clarify. It usually goes something like this.

    DD: Ben!

Me: Ben the boy or Ben the bear?

DD: Boy! (at which point, I have to explain that Ben is with his family for the day) or Bear! (which is pronounced be-ah and sounds like a kid from Boston asking for a beer)

  • Anything you write with is an "ABCD" If you have letters on your shirt then your shirt is also an ABCD even though she can and does say shirt when there are no letters. Two of the neighbor girls were playing Barbies and Lo had to have one with "Mommy hair" (brown hair) and she pronounces it Barbuhree.

Lol! Lo has a book of nursery rhymes and one is about a teddy bear and she calls it a tee boo. Tee boo tee boo touch nose! Tee boo Tee boo touch toes! I don't know why bear is so hard to pronounce.

  • E has always called bananas mia-mai's I don't know where she got that, but I think its super cute. I always swore up and down that I'd never talk baby talk to my kid, but mia-mia is my exception. She's been trying to say "banana" properly lately, and I've been known to "correct" her and insist that she ask for a mia-mia instead (maybe this should be my FFFC)?

E has also decided that "peek-a-boo" is a way to ask someone or something to come back. For instance, if she's sitting in her high chair and drops her cup under the table, she'll yell "peek-a-boo" at it to try to get it to come back.

    And one more to brag...

My mom has been coming over about once a week. When she comes, she's usually waiting for us at our house when we get home from work/daycare. Sometimes when we're on our way home from daycare, E will say "meemaw Eva's house?" I think she's trying to ask if grandma is coming over or not  :)

Context is key with Lily since a lot of her words sound very similar.  For example, "gock/guck" means sock, truck, duck, quack, and I think now also means walk.

"App/Up" means nap, help, up (used to mean down, too, even though she could say down for ages), and apple.  But almost all fruits are apps.  She and DH play a little game when he has OJ and she tells him it's "app doose" and he tells her "No, it's orange!" and they giggle and repeat the whole thing.

"Poop" also means poop (yesterday I told her she wasn't allowed to say it for the rest of the day), diaper and grape.

A lot of the time when people ask me what she's saying I have to ask what they're doing/what she's pointing at to figure it out.

  • Apparently when I pick DS up I say "uppity up" so now when he asks to be picked up he say "uppity!."

He also calls all ambulances, fire trucks, and police cars "woo woos" because apparently that is the noise I make doing my fake siren noise. So when he hears one he yells "wooo woo" "uppity" so I can pick him up to show him (we live in a high rise on a busy street so he can see them). It is funny because even when we are some place where there is no chance of seeing them he still asks me to show him. :)

All fruit and vegetables that are round are "apples"

    All dogs are "wow wows"

She used to say "hepme" (help me) whenever she wants to get down or out of something, but she hasn't said it in a while.

She calls the cats "Zy" I think because their names start with "z' and I call them "guys"

she loves to play in the "wadquer. wadquer, wadquer" (water)

    "ba boo" is peek-a-boo

This is how Lily says bear, too.  I used to try to emphasize the "r" and get her to repeat it, but I gave up.

  • Gator likes to yell "goat! Gooooaaaatttt!" At the rubber duck at swim lessons. Which is funny because she can say "duck".

When she see's M and M candies, she points to them and says "mommy's!"

She can say milk and water, but everything she drinks, she calls "juice". Which is funny because she has never had juice.

  • All shirts & sweatshirts with some sort of lettering read "Go Purdue"--So what if I'm brainwashing my kid?

She has an old dolly (my old one) and she refuses to put clothes on her so she's naked dolly.  But she's graduated to naked mommy and naked daddy..even if we aren't naked.  Ex: At Joann's something must have made her think of naked so she started saying (loudly) naked daddy! naked daddy! I got some looks.  I mean we are not a bunch of nudists or anything!!

My B says mow for any type of drink too!
Everything he points at now is either mommy or daddy. If he sees a car he points and says mommy an I he sees a truck he points and says daddy.
I love this stage! Hearing him say new words and see how he communicates is awesome!

E says, "Some!" whenever she wants something we're eating, I guess because we always ask her if she wants "some." It's even more funny because it sounds more like, "Shum!"

  • My kid doesn't talk so no weird things here...
    Daisypath Happy Birthday tickers
  • Ever since we saw "We bought a zoo" DH has taught LBB that tigers "chuff."  So if you ask what a lion says, he'll roar.  If you ask what a tiger says, he'll do a little "huff huff."

LBB is not great with prepositions, so if he wants to go somewhere with you he'll tell you "walk me" or "walk (Sub in name of friend)".  When he wants to be picked up, it's "up me."

But my current favorite is based on the pirate towel we got, inspired by kagl.  DH sings him "yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me" when drying him off with the towel.  So LBB calls the towel "oh ho" and if you ask what a pirate says, he responds with "oh ho"

Any large boxy vehicle is a "fie truck", this includes motor homes and city buses.

B calls everything like that "a bus". And she put "a" in front of a lot of words. A mess, a bus, a how help...

Tonight she started yelling for my neighbor's dog Rocky by saying "Raheek."
  • Hadley's belly button is her "but but," all dogs are "grr.."

    And my favorite favorite...

Baby sister, emmalyn, is lemon lime.
  • DS has been saying some really cute things recently.

DD Taught him "Doctor Who" (her favorite show) so he says "Doctor" or "doctwho"

He always acts surprised when he sees something new and says "Oooh what's that"

He says "bird" like he's from NY ("bou-d")

Everything liquid is "wa-wa" and all food is "back-nack" (snack)

He has a friend at school named Mya and is constantly saying her name.

Not so fun, he has started screaming "No, mine, " No done," "No Stop," "Go Away" and "Stop it." His negative vocabulary is great....

My DD used to say "Bizzert" instead of "dessert" - we still call it Bizzert. She's almost 9 and can say it the right way now, but it was really cute and stuck.
