Postpartum Depression

I wrote a blog about my struggle with postpartum depression/ postpartum anxiety in hopes to provide encouragement for folks out there going through the same thing. Any type of mental health/chemical or hormonal imbalance issue, really.  I don't make any money off of this, so it is not for any personal gain. Just wanting to encourage.     Why would ppl be offended?

    I read it and it touched me. I am you right now. 14 months of harbouring and being irritable, irrational, closed off, sad, anxious. I have sought therapy and after one session Zoloft was suggested. I don't want to rely and depend on meds. I don't want to go through potential nasty side effects. I want to go at it naturally and learn how to change and adapt. I just don't know how. All I do know is that it's ruining relationships and its ruining me. My husband is tired of it and doesn't know how to deal with it and I don't have any answers for him. Everything is a busy constant battle. And I hate it. Tell me how you changed and how you overcame all that. I just feel like I'm too weak to even make an attempt. I'm too consumed with what ifs

  • I am so sorry you are going through this. I am glad it helped you in some way. I would suggest seeking therapy from a LSW (Licensed Social Worker)  instead of a therapist who relies heavily on medication in their practice. Read into natural remedies/ vitamins and herbs that may help you. I would get a blood panel done to rule out Vitamin D/ Magnesium deficiency. Supplementing with both made a world of difference for me, along with an excercise regimin. If you need to talk please feel free to email me at samanthajphoto at gmail dot com.

     

    I had posted this to the parenting board and got accused of "attention whoring" that is why I apologized, i did not realize posting my blog was against TOS. I would truly like to do anything I can do to help.

  • I don't see how or why that would be against the rules. Alot of moms on here are great help and alot are very opinionated. I've had a full CBC blood count before. Is that the same? Maybe it's a hormonal imbalance. I do take a multi and iron.

    Thank you for sharing your story.  I'm really sorry the ladies on the Parenting board gave you a hard time for posting.  I think unless you go through it, you don't truly understand.  I had a terrible time with PPD with my DD but then I have always struggled with depression and anxiety. Over a year later,  I don't believe I am out of the woods yet, but I take it day by day.  It is super hard and there are a lot of days where I wonder I have guilt about even having a baby because I don't think I am a good enough mother.  But a combination of meds, therapy, and a supportive family system helps me get by.  It sounds like you had a lot of support too and I think that is important.  I think you are brave for sharing your story and I thank you for doing so.
