Make CJ feel better

Re: Make CJ feel better

  • When DD was 18 months we were on the dock at my parents house. She was an arms length from me and fell off it the dock into the lake. It was 30 degrees outside. I immediately jumped in after her but felt terrible.

  • Oh geez, a TON of tiny ones like poking him in the eye, tripping over him/bumping into him so he falls, etc... I'm clumsy and poor little DS seems to stand just in the right place for my clumsiness to effect him :( They are small things but a few have resulted in some bruises or scratches....of course now taht I said that we will have a huge incident I'm sure ;)

  • DD has fallen down the flight of stairs from our front door to our main floor TWICE.

Also, about a month ago we were swimming, and in the kiddie pool. It was time to leave, and I lifted her up on the edge and in the time it took me to get out myself, she'd crawled at the speed of light over to the adult pool and fallen in. I ran over, fell on my stomach, and shot my arm out for her slowing sinking body under the water, and managed to just grab her ankle. She was totally fine, but I haven't been able to go back to that pool since b/c I don't think I could ever look those lifeguards in the eye again, haha.

  •  Oh, and DH loves having tickle fights with her on our bed. He has let her fall off not once, not twice, but THREE times, my friends.

  • Oh just yesterday we were at the pool. DS jumped in front of the slide and got pulled under by the current. A lifeguard had to grab him. Water and my kids don't mix.
  • I used to constantly run into doorways with my kid's head when he was a newborn. Like, all the time. I have horrible depth perception.

When DD was 11 months, she crawled off of our bed, which is pretty high off the ground.  It was one of those "turned my back for a second" instances and then a loud thump.  Because my back was turned, I couldn't tell what hit the ground first (head, leg, arm, etc.) and I was freaking out looking for some sort of injury.  That sound haunted me for months and I was shaking the rest of the night.

  • Yesterday DS climbed on the umbrella stroller and he tipped it over. He has a fat lip now.

Eli walked a little later than most and he immediately started running. We have hard wood floors with cement underneath and he bit it A LOT those first few months. Most of the time he caught himself, but there were a few major goose eggs and one fat lip.

  • Both DDs have fallen off my bed a few times as babies. I was upstairs with DD1 (2 yo then) and watched her fall down the stairs, all of them. It replays in my head in slow motion, me reaching for her, the betrayed look in her eyes... I haven't managed to damage DS yet, but I'm sure it's coming.

Oh another one, I was in another room at my in laws. DD1 was naked from her bath and stood on the bed. All I hear is a huge crack sound. I was sure she broke every bone. I went tearing in the room and she had the biggest goose egg I've ever seen on her forehead. I thought my heart would explode through my chest.

  • DS1 fell down 6 stairs when he was around 6 months or so. He also crashed face first into a coffee table and killed his front tooth when he was 3. I'm sure there's more, he's very accident prone but I can't think right now.

A spider crawled on my shoulder while I was nursing DS2 the other day and I freaked out, plopped him on the bed and turned to grab something to kill the spider with. DS2 rolled right off the bed.

  • Told DS1 to be a big boy and get dressed himself. He tried to put his pants on standing up and hit the stone fireplace and broke his nose on Tuesday. Never would have happened if I just helped him like he asked me to.

  • A few weeks ago, ds was sleeping on our bed and he got up and pulled himself up on the bedrail and dove off into the floor. He got a bruise on his eyebrow, and busted his lip.

He also tripped and fell face first into the corner of our tv stand; got another busted lip.

And I have rammed his head into so many doorways, it's unreal. Like, he's so used to it, it doesn't phase him.

  • I feel like DS is always getting hurt. He is quite the daredevil and super fast. Just today, we were at the park and he managed to sprint away from me on the play structure. He bit it pretty hard and hit his head on a pole. Now there is another big bump on his head. I'm scared for the future and afraid we will end up in the ER too.

  • A few weeks ago DS was sitting on the couch looking at books so I was screwing around on my phone and enjoying the momentary peace and quiet. Suddenly out of the corner of my eye I see him running on the couch as fast as possible, he missed the corner of our sectional and fell off and hit his head HARD on the coffee table. I felt absolutely terrible.

  • When Dd1 was about 11 months old, she fell down our basement stairs. I thought I had closed it when I brought up our Christmas tree, but I was definitely wrong. I still get nauseated when I go down to the basement.

  • Broken leg at 14 months.

DS was walking quickly (not even running) over to our stairs because he heard DH come in the door downstairs. There was a ball in his path and I don't know if he tried to kick it, or just didn't see it and kind of stepped on it, but his legs flew out from under him and he fell hard. He started screaming.  I picked him up, brought him to the couch to comfort him and say the usual "it's ok, you'll be ok..." but within a minute we could tell something wasn't right, he wasn't calming down and his leg didn't look right.

Anyway, long story short...yep, broken leg at 14 months.  Although it wasn't my fault, I still felt horrible, I was only a few feet behind him.

Ugh, so many.  When DD was about 4 months I had her in her car seat attached to the stroller while I was walking the dog.  I hooked the dog's leash to the stroller while I went to grab something from the stroller basket.  In those few seconds a cat walked by and my dog lunged forward.  The whole stroller flipped over.  DD was fine, but I was shaking so badly.

A few months ago, DS was playing on some grass with some other kids while I was a few feet away.  He started to spin around, which I knew in my head was a bad idea because of all the kids there, but I let him continue.  He ended up slamming his mouth into a little girl's head.  He knocked out one of his top front teeth and split open his bottom lip.  He had blood pouring out of his mouth.  Fortunately it was a baby tooth.  Unfortunately, he's going to be missing a top tooth for a couple of years.

  • First, I accidentlly bonk both kids' heads way more than I should.  It happens a lot while taking them back into their rooms for diaper changes, but also going in and out of car/carseat.

Second, DS fell off his changing table when he was... maybe 9 or 10mo?  I was standing RIGHT THERE and all of the sudden he was on the ground screaming.  I still don't know what happened exactly.  He was having a meltdown at the time, I'm guessing he just leaned over too far to reach for me or something.  Ugh, I felt so terrible about that.

  • I turned DD blue a number of times before DH took over bathes when she was a baby. I never ever made the water warm enough. He already said he was buying me a water thermometer this time.

I also made her go upstairs by herself when she was about 3 {she's a chicken and hated to be alone at the time} and she started down the stairs with a pillow...and fell. Rode the pillow down the stairs basically but I still felt bad. Though not bad enough to go upstairs with her after that.

At 5 months old DS rolled off of our bed.  Black eye.

I knew better to look away, but I was so consumed with wrapping Christmas gifts, it happened in a split second.

Don't feel bad, CJ, we've all had our moments!!  The most important thing is, he is OK!

  • Here's my latest MOTY moment. DS#2 has taken to throwing fits if I don't coddle him, but he's getting too old for it and I'm trying to nip it in the bud. A few weeks ago, we got home and he pitched a fit because I wouldn't carry him inside from the car. This kid is 4, BTW, so you can see why I said no. I told him to go ahead and stay there until he was ready to walk in himself. (This is in an attached garage with the door closed, so it's not like I was worried someone would snatch him.) I propped the door to the house so that I could keep an ear out for him getting into anything.

So, this car originally had cigarette lighters in both the front and back seats, but we took them out to put chargers in (the one in back for DVD players on road trips). For some reason, DH put the one in the back seat back in at some point. I had no idea. I'm sure you can figure out what happened next. All of a sudden I heard horrible wailing from the garage, so I rushed out and there was my son with a cigarette lighter burn on his finger that was already starting to blister.

Yeah, I felt pretty crappy about that one.

  • When DS was a newborn I would always hit either his head or feet on the door frame to his room.  I swear it's the frame...

Also, lately, since DS has been learning to walk "well", we've had a million spills.  All in one week he face planted on the playground and scraped his cheeks all up, then he face planted on our driveway and had road rash down his forehead, nose, lip, and chin.  There were 2 other things too but I can't remember now...

The other day he busted his face on the coffee table and split his lip open.  This was on DHs watch.  To which I had to say 'I told you so!' because he's always saying that DS seems to hurt himself a lot when he's with me.....

  • Oh, Hav's reminded me! When DS1 was almost 2 we were staying at a hotel and some of my toiletries were in the diaper bag. I was changing him on the bed and turned to grab something. In the few seconds I was turned around he dumped about a third of a bottle of Calgon body spray in his mouth/all over his face. Scary.

  • DS1 tripped and fell and had to get stitches. His glasses cut his eyebrow.

DS2 had a broken leg as a baby, and we still aren't sure how it happened! He woke up with it, the only thing that makes sense is that he got it stuck in between the crib rails. Ugh. it was horrible, the ER doc made me cry, too. AND DS2 tripped over DS1's bike and hurt his wrist, it wasn't a break but he had a cast for it. This was about 9 months after his leg. Poor kid, it was a rough year for him!

DS fell in my parents pool when he was 2. I was standing right next to him and jumped in after him in my clothes. It was April and they had just opened their pool and the water was cold. I felt horrible.

  • This is making ME feel better! I dropped DD in the car yesterday. I was carrying her from her car seat to our van's third row, forgot I had one of the seats folded down, sat down onto nothing, and fell. I let go of DD and she fell flat on her back. I felt so bad but she was totally fine ten minutes of crying and nursing later. Thankfully, DH already has two kids so he was more understanding than I know he would have been otherwise. Oops!

  • DS was 7 months old and I was bringing him down the stairs from our bedrooms to the living room. He threw himself forward in the second that I lifted my foot to go down the first step, it threw me off balance and we fell. I was able to flip us so I went down on my back and got him on my stomach but my leg got trapped underneath me and is still not the same 4 months later. I felt like a terrible Mom though
