Annoying or Not?

So to break up the unending monotony of my life, I ate lunch at Panera.  I worked while I did it.  The mom and friend to my left were chatting, etc.  I have no idea how.  Mom had her iphone on max volume and it was some sort of Baby Einstein meets Rugrats sounding baby movie.  Baby was around 12 months and totally not paying any attention to the phone.  My kids don't really watch much TV, partly because I find these things super annoying.  If I do hand one of them an app when we are out somewhere the volume is so low they complain they cannot hear it, at which point they can choose to hand it to me or suffer through pet shop games with low sound, poor first world children that they are.  I hate background noise, and think it's rude to play your music, movies, games where others can hear them.

So....full volume iphone baby movie a foot away from other people....annoying or not?

    Not just annoying, rude.

    FWIW, Allison plays with my phone all the time, but not in public.  Not because I'm embarassed of it, but because at home I have carpet so she is less likely to break it!

    Annoying and rude.

    DD isn't much for watching tv. She likes interactive games. Anyways, if she plays them in a public place, especially a restaurant, the volume is very low.

    Yep.  I am big on if you can't quietly entertain your children at restaurants or other entertainment venues where other people are trying to enjoy themselves and don't expect lots of kids around, then wait until they are a little older and try again.

    That is not to say that I mind a screaming kid somewhere if the parents are trying to fix the situation.  That is totally different.  But purposefully trying to turn your booth at Panera into your living room, complete with a blaring tv with Nick Jr. is totally over the top.

    I agree with this. I would block out the noise probably.

    Annoying and inconsiderate. DH and I are always conscious of noise levels and we would barely turn the volume on at all.

    Yeah, I don't think I could block that out. Nor should I be expected to.

    Yes, annoying and rude.  When we are out and Logan wants to play his leap pad he has to keep the volume low.  It is just a smart way to teach your kids to be polite, I mean would it be okay for an adult to walk into a restaurant with music blasting out of their phone the entire meal? No.

    I'd say annoying and rude. If I go to a nice restaurant for lunch, I don't want to hear a) a cell phone playing anything, or b) screaming children. If we go out, we leave when and if DD starts screaming out of consideration for the other people that are in the restaurant.
