Teacher gift?

I was wondering if any of the ladies that are/were teachers can help me out with ideas. DD would like to give her teacher an end of the year gift as a thank you for having been such a wonderful teacher, but we're kind of stuck on ideas. I've lurked enough to know that homemade gifts are a no-no, unless it's a card/note written by the student which I'm sure DD will want to include. However, her teacher has been such a sweetheart and is just a wonderful person with the kids that I'd like to give her a little something along with the card/note. I just have no idea what to get her  :/  She likes coffee but beyond that I have no clue. Do I get her a Starbucks coffee & mug set? Starbucks gift card? Or maybe a restaurant or department store gift card? Ideally I'd like to be able to get it on Amazon so I can avoid the store but I'll make the trip if necessary.

What would you as a teacher like/would have liked to receive? Would it be wrong of me to have DD ask her what sort of things she likes (in a curious 1st grader way)? Thank you so much in advance for your ideas and responses!

Oh no! Not the teacher gift post, again!! ;)

My unpopular opinion (by some on this board) is a baked good, something homemade or a card.

As a teacher I've gotten gc's to dunkin donuts, Tim Hortons, Barnes and noble that's my favorite because I am a huge book nerd and to a local restaurant.

  • I gave ours money with the class and then bought her a bracelet I think she'll like. Of course, we're FB friends and she's best friends with one of my neighbors, so I think I know her a little better than most.
  • I always do GCs to target or somewhere similar. They can get something for themselves or household staples if it is needed.

  • DS #2 is giving his teacher a bouquet of tulips, a card, and a Barnes and Noble GC (because she's a huge reader).
  • I think an amazon gift card would be great! She could use it for a lot of different things, personal or for the classroom.

  • In addition to a thank you card we always give Target or Barnes & Noble GCs.  :)

I usually do a note/card and a gift card and appreciated those as a teacher. I agree with another poster that I trashed any baked goods.

This year I have given my kids' teachers B&N and Starbucks gift cards for Christmas and restaurant gift cards for end of the year. I got one that was usable at several different restaurants.

For teacher appreciation I gave DS's teacher iTunes gift card because they have ipads in the classes but have to pay for the apps themselves. I also know that she has a Keurig in her office and drinks coffee all day so I bought her a travel mug and the K-cups she likes also.

  • If she likes coffee, I would get her a Starbucks gift card or some other good coffee shop.  I would avoid a gift mug set because I got so many mugs when i was teaching.  I also always loved B&N gift cards.  Teachers usually love to read or she can use it to get books for the classroom.  Restaurant gift cards are always nice.

  • I'm a teacher on a long break -- I love notes from parents.  Really, just a letter is the best gift.  A gift card to the teacher supply store would be awesome also.  Teachers spend so much money on bulletin board decorations and whatnot that extra funds to those places are always the perfect gift!
