Im due june 17th and were almost finished working on the nursery etc. I have a few packs of wipes and diapers, but thats it. Not sure if I should stock up big time or just buy as we go?
We've registered for 1 box of size 1 diaper and that's it. It has three (I think) packs in it. I figured that'll be enough to decide if we like the brand or not. I'd feel bad getting too many more only to realize they don't work. It's not like diapers aren't easily available when you need more.

There's no need to stock up because you don't know how long your baby will be in each size. I have one box of NB diapers and that's it. Also you don't want to buy too many wipes as eventually they will dry out. But start looking for and collecting coupons for both! Every little bit of savings helps!
Start out with one box we quickly learned that my pampers swaddlers were the only ones that fit my first daughter correctly and didn't bother her skin. You don't want to stock up on a brand that fits incorrectly or gives lo a rash
Wipes are ALWAYS needed, so stock on up and store them well, they will last. We went through 2 boxes of size 1s and I think 3 of size 2s. Every baby is different and grows at different rates. I'd try to have at least 1 box of size 1 and size 2 and worry about they rest when the baby arrives.

We have maybe 4 packs of wipes leftover from the other kids, an unopened jumbo pack of NBs, and an unopened giant box of 1s. I'm positive I will use the 1s but I won't open the NB until I'm sure we will use them.
DD was 5lbs and in NBs for months whereas DS never wore them at all (8lbs).
I currently have a box of size 1 and a box of size 2, and 2 boxes of wipes. I'll probably get newborn diapers and other sizes at my shower so I'm waiting until then to see if I need to get more. I agree with PP about the wipes- you can never have too many wipes!!
Well if your are looking to save money and plan ahead you have to make a decision to stick with your choices. If you just want to know what people need to get going. IMO wipes only dry out if you open them, I still am using wipes from last black friday. Also, do not buy a lot of NB size b/c if you have a small/big baby it varies. I love pampers wetness indicator size 1. I used 3 bags of NB and 3 boxes of size 1.
DD was always in the 75-90% percentile. She grew fast but I never seemed to have too many of one size. I stockpiled and had almost a years worth when she was born. I shop black Friday at BRU for the sale on diapers and wipes. Some people say though that some brands work better for different genders.
This is my fourth and we've never bought nb diapers. I always start out with a Sam's club box of size one. We've never had a leaking problem due to size.

Don't stock up on newborn diapers. My son was 8lb 2oz and was 21inches--went directly into 1's.
I've bought a few boxes of pampers swaddler 1's to get stocked, along with sensitive wipes.
I think stocking up on a sensitive type wipe is OK. Diapers, you never know if your kid will have a reaction to the diaper or leak in certain ones. I would limit yourself to a few boxes, unless of course you get them as gifts than I would keep them.
Honestly, I wouldn't stock up too much. Different brands fit differently and some babies are sensitive to certain brands. For us. DD got a horrible rash anytime a Pamper was put on her so we had to use Huggies. Some people have had the opposite problem.

OK I'm the crazy one here but this is DD #2 and I've already got 2 packs of newborn (72 diapers) and 2 boxes plus 8 packs of Size 1 (640 diapers). I just started storing Size 2. I only buy them when they're on super sale and you can always exchange them later if you hit the next size up earlier than planned. The only reason I'm stocking up is to get the best price so if that doesn't concern you then don't worry about having too much on hand before the baby is born.
Here's a good guide from someone who has four kids. Scroll down to "Preparing for Baby".
I have enough for about 6-7 days, and those are NB. I'm picking up a pack of 1s tomorrow, so that will cover us for another 5ish days. I have wipes on hand for DD, so I might grab an extra bag of them but I'm not too concerned. I'll just pick up what we need as we go (more NBs if he's smaller, more 1s when we get close to running out etc.).
Proud babywearing, breastfeeding, vaccinating SAHM of 2U2!
I wouldn't get any more than that. After the first few weeks I discovered that I absolutely hated the smell of Pampers and I was so glad I hadn't stocked up on a bunch of diapers that I would hate and have to get rid of.
I am so happy you posted this, I thought I was crazy for hating the smell of Pampers! Other people don't seem to notice but something about them makes me cringle. I have a friend who uses them and I can't go anywhere near her baby when he has a wet diaper because the smell just makes me nauseous (which I'm sure the pregnancy has a lot to do with).
The smell sensitivity is the main reason we won't stock up. Well, that, and after a month I think we're just going to switch over to cloth anyway...

We honestly went through WAY more than we thought. We started with 4 packs quickly realized that wasn't even close to enough. But it all depends on how quickly your baby grows.
For my shower (which was this past Saturday), my sister put on the invitation for each guest to bring a package of diapers as entry in a raffle for a gift card.
I HIGHLY suggest this!!! Our nursery is now stocked to the brim with all different size diapers and lots of wipes as well. We didn't register for either one.
