Babies: 0 - 3 Months

LO cried for almost 6 hours straight yesterday...

mobile users: LO cried for almost 6 hours straight yesterday

So I need some kind words after last night! My LO (who is 8 weeks today) had a horrible evening yesterday. She cried uncontrollably from 5 to 11pm. She tends to be a sensitive baby who cries pretty easily, and about once or twice a week she'll have a crying spell of 2-4 hours, but yesterday was just terrible. I made a doctor's appointment to make sure everything is OK, because I don't know what to do at this point! I suspect she might have reflux because she often gags or chokes during feedings (I EBF), she coughs and gets hiccups several times a day. Last week she threw up 2x and this week once. Anyone have any insight? If it is reflux, would it be weird for her to get it this late in the game? Or maybe she always had it but it has gotten worse? I used to drink milk every morning but since she was 2 weeks I cut it out of my diet since she would get fussy in the evenings...now I drink almond milk but maybe that's not a good idea either.

Sorry for the long post. Just trying to figure out what might be wrong! Any advice or ideas ???

  • I am sorry you had to go through that, it's never fun!

That said, a lot of things you described are things my LO does/did, and she has no reflux. It could be just a witching hour (or hours, which is normal), but it definitely could be some slight reflux issues, so it's a good idea to double check with your pedi. Throwing up twice in a week is pretty normal activity, depending on what you mean by throwing up. If it was just some spit up, maybe a small puddle, then that's normal, my LO does that on a daily basis haha. If you mean like exorcist style, then it's probably something to be concerned about.

  • Poor you! That's a lot of crying. It could be reflux, but the things that you describe sound pretty normal too. I think lots of babies cough, hiccup, and spit up throughout the day, so I wouldn't automatically assume its reflux. Hopefully you find answers and the crying gets better. My daughter was a very colicky baby so I feel your pain. We thought she had reflux but it ended up just being colic and she grew out of it.
