Hi Ladies!
So, I just had a couple of questions. I got all my initial testing done with my first RE when we were living in St. Louis, which was about 9 months ago and it was really the beginning of my journey, so I'm having trouble remembering all the initial blood work that he did. I would assume my new RE would have looked through all my files and asked for me to complete any blood work that my first RE didn't complete, but I want to make sure I did in fact get all important initial blood work completed...I guess I just want to be an advocate for myself and make sure that all necessary testing is being completed.
So, to my question! What initial blood work did you ladies get done when you first started your journey? What blood work should be completed in my file? Any input would be appreciated.
My second question is for women on Metformin for PCOS. My first RE wanted me to try to take Metformin and I tried for a couple of weeks and it completely tore up my GI system, which was miserable and I stopped taking it. My new RE asked if I was on it and I told him I struggled to take it and he left it at that. Could you ladies tell me how Metformin has helped you and if your body did adjust to the medicine? I'm thinking I may give this a second try if my RE is okay with it....anything is worth a try I suppose!
TIA ladies!
Re: Initial Blood Work
I don't really remember what blood work they did when I started this journey. I remember they did a lot of it and I do know they tested my hormone levels because that was one of the first indications I had PCOS. Sorry I am not a lot of help there.
As to the metformin....I think it has helped me a lot. I started out slow with 500 mg of the extended release at dinner. I moved up to 1000 mg and last night bumped up to 1500 mg. I remember the first US they did showed my ovaries were enlarged and had lots of your typical PCOS cysts. After a few months of the metrofmin they did another ultrasound and it showed some imporvement.
The metformin does mess with my stomach when I first start a new dose. Today I have been REALLY nauseaus and had some yucky GI issues. After about a week or so it gets better for me. I know there are others that never really adjust so I guess each person is different in how they respond to it.
Good luck! I am keeping my FX for you!

I had a lot of things done in my initial blood work, most of which was mentioned by pp. I also had my thyroid and cholesterol levels checked. As for the metformin, I fall into what ttuprincess said about others. I've been on it almost 3 months, and have slowly worked up to 2000mg, and still haven't completed adjusted to it. Most days include nauseousness and some gross intestinal stuff going on. If I stay away from carbs and sugar I have better days.
