We are putting LO in a 6 week summer class. This will be her first dance class, but I think she will like it since she loves to dance at home. It's called Baby Movement, not tap/ballet. The receptionist at the school told me when I registered her that she needs tap and ballet shoes, but wait until after the first class to see if she even participates. I don't mind buying them, but I don't get why she would need these shoes for a 6 week class with no recital? Plus, I was under the impression that it wasn't a ballet/tap class, since it doesn't say that in the name. Would you just buy the shoes or call and ask the teacher who will be teaching the class if it's 100% necessary
Re: Dancing school question
I'd wait until after the first class so you can get a sense of what they do. Tap shoes probably necessary since they make noise.
Ballet shoes can be subbed with bare feet or those house shoes that look like slippers. I agree with pp that payless sells both. Also, we have a children's consignment that happens to be near a dance studio and they always have a ton too. I bought our foster girls tap shoes at a consignment sale. Sometimes the studios sell used shoes also.
