How many of you BTDT moms used a robe at the hospital? I'm working on gathering things for my hospital bag and wondered of this was a must. I don't own one, so I'd have to purchase one.

I am bringing a robe this time around. it is a shorter one, just above the knees. With my previous experiences, I didn't have one and I wore the hospital gown until I got a chance to get settled, some sleep and showered, then I wore nursing pj's.

I'm a FTM, but I bought a nightgown set at Motherhood for the hospital that came with a light robe. I think it will come in handy when I want to walk to the halls or when I want to be less exposed when their are visitors.
I pretty much only wore a robe, nursing bra, and the big mesh panties the whole time after I finally showered. I got a short, cotton robe at Pea in a Pod.
I had to buy one just for the birth and was glad I did. I wore it a ton in the hospital since nothing closes in the back. I just had a little thin cotton one, and I still use it a lot to this day! Was nice for around the house too for the first few weeks/months when I was pretty much topless all the time
Our hospital gives us 2 gowns - wearing the first one open to the back and the second as a robe - open to the front which gives you full coverage and does the job. I would not purchase one as I would not want it to get trashed You can always request an extra gown. I never got to walk around during labor with DS as I came in at a 6-7, received my intrathecal after a bag of fluids/antibiotics (within 1 hour) and then had ds within 3-4 hours.

A lightweight robe may be helpful once you get home (more for accessible nursing) - depending on whether or not you have air conditioning and how cold/warm you keep your home. I have a few robes at home but probably won't use them much as it will be warm/summer... I am more likely to wear my nursing camis/tank tops/pj's if needed.

FTM here- I'm taking one, but only b/c my mom bought me a robe and PJ set for my birthday. I don't think I would have went out and bought one just to take to the hospital.
I did because it was COLD in those rooms. However, get a cheap and cheerful one because you might bleed all over it by accident or LO might vomit all over it (learning to eat). I'd get one you wouldn't mind tossing if it gets too decimated.
I liked having a lightweight robe for covering up my fairly skimpy nursing nightgown when visitors came (and there were a lot of visitors, from family and friends to people doing DS's hearing test, etc). I just got a light cotton one from Victoria's secret so it wasn't maternity and I could use it any time.
I bought an inexpensive lightweight one at Target last time. It was nice to throw on over the hospital gown, which (especially when nursing) can leave you a little exposed. And the hospital room can be freezing. It was also nice to throw on at home over my nursing tank. But if its the middle of summer and you don't have AC you might not need it.
