Re: Sunblock
Our ped said no sunscreen or sunblock until at least 6mo, and dermatologist said none of either until 1yr. So, none for now. We try and cover arms, legs, and feet with clothes, and keep a hat and sunglasses on her.

I've used Aveeno, Coppertone Water Babies, & a store brand. None irratated DSs skin-so that was good since DS had an allergy to J&J products.
Please don't flame me. FWIW, my bag was one that was chosen for inspection by the TSA on our Florida trip so a lot of the "nice" cosmetics and lotions I had packed for the trip were missing when I got my checked bag back. The also stole my Dior Show mascara.
I ended up at a Rite Aid in Florida buying new cosmetics and lotions. Needless to say there wasn't a lot to choose from.

Our ped told us sunscreen was fine at Annabelle's 4 month appointment, I'm not sure if he'd be ok with it sooner but the timing was right with the weather warming up. I agree that staying in (or completely out of the sun) for a year is unrealistic and I think sunscreen is important, especially for fair skinned babies like mine.

We use Aveeno Baby. We were out in the sun last weekend and I don't burn and DH is Cuban so Jackson has some good skin tone. I had aveeno on him while we were out he wasn't red at all and I had tan lines so I know he was protected.
We will be outside most of the summer so I am sure I will be gone through multiple bottles.

We live in Phoenix, and not being outside is also impossible. We are outside all of the time. She constantly wears a hat and sunglasses, and is usually under a sunshade or other shade item. When she's not, we try to keep thin clothing over her skin. Our docs are well aware that staying away from the sun, when we basically live on its surface, is impossible. However, they still made those recommendations, and we follow them, and yet continue to go outside constantly.
I also know how important sunblock is, growing up as a swimmer in the high altitude desert, and yet I'm choosing to following medical recommendations to wait until after a year, when the benefits will outweigh the dangers.
