So hazel has had a really gross mucusy cold going on for about 3 weeks now. No fever or wheezing, just really runny nose and wet phlegmy caughing all day long. I had it with her for the first week, but I've been 100% better for a while now. I thought it might be seasonal allergies, but when I researched it, I read that toddlers don't usually have seasonal allergies because it takes a few years of exposure for the pollen sensitivity to develop, plus her eyes aren't red or watery.
She has been getting her 2yr molars and they are taking forever to come in, but could that really be causing all this mucus? Should I take her to dr.? I feel like there's not much they can do, since there's no fever or wheezing. I had her checked at the CVS clinic a couple weeks ago and she has no ear infection or strep. So far I've been giving her tylenol to help her sleep at night and limiting dairy in an attempt to reduce the phlegm. Any other suggestions?
Re: 3 week cold?
Oh tough one! I think the colds/viruses that are going around lately seem to last forever! I found that putting vicks vapor rub on C's feet at night before bed did help and she actually liked it too. Maybe hot/steamy showers before bed too to loosen everything up.
If you see green phlegm then maybe call the doc since it's been around for so long.
I go by color. If it's green/yellow/etc, then there is probably an infection. You might want to have it checked. If it's clear, then teething or allergies. Nate most definitely has seasonal allergies and the pedi has him on Zyrtec daily. He also has asthma. ETA: N is still getting in 2 yr molars as well, which causes stuffy nose for him.
I agree. They may want to put her in Zyrtec or something. Is she feeling better?
