Baby Proofing

I am really curious, how much of your house is baby-proofed? Originally we thought we could just do the living room and use it as a playroom, but DS and I are totally going bonkers being stuck in one room for so much of the day. (We do get out for walks and errands, but when we're home, we're usually in there.) I am generally an intelligent person, but I am completely flumoxed as to how to tackle the other rooms in my house, especially since DH is not really on board. Plus I feel like everything is always dirty (especially the kitchen floor and the bathrooms). Inspire me, ladies. I need help!

Re: Baby Proofing

  • Honestly, we really didn't do much. We have the lower cabinets in the kitchen locked, except for one that we let him play with. The drawers aren't locked, we don't mind if he open and closes them.

we keep all doors closed in the hallway and if we want to keep him in one room, mostly because if we want to stay in one room, we will put a gate up in the hallway and the kitchen.

    That is basically it!

  • Our DDs are free to roam the entire downstairs of our house. That includes the living room, kitchen, play area (which is supposed to be a dining room), and bathroom. We have a baby gate at the bottom of the stairs. We didn't really baby proof the kitchen cabinets because a) we rent and b) they don't go in them anyways. We have outlet covers, and wires/plugs are hidden. That's about all we needed to do to make this place safe.

  • Our DS gets into EVERYTHING. We baby proofed all the cabinents and drawers in his room, his bathroom, the kitch and the family room. we have a baby gate up in the family room so as long as it's closed and all the bedroom doors are closed he's trapped in the family room/kitchen. All the open plugs have covers. I also have a baby gate stretched out that goes across the family room preventing DS from getting to the book shelf or flat screen tv. Just in case we also have the flat screen bolted to the wall. Phew that's a lot lol seriously though before we baby proofed ds was trying to open EVERYTHING!
  • We have a small apartment so there's not much to baby proof.

We baby proofed the kitchen cabinets and the broiler part of the stove since DS loved opening that thing.

We also did the electrical sockets that are close to the floor.

  • We locked the cabinets under the kitchen and bathroom sink, put in outlet covers and bought a cover for the stove but she doesn't climb up yet so when she does I'll put it on.  I also bought door knob covers and when we need them I'll put them on.  We have a small house and no fireplace so we didn't have to do too much.
  • We put locks on things in the living room and his bedroom.  We have safety plugs in just about every outlet lower than four feet off the ground, and I'll probably do the rest soon.  He pokes at every plug, and I'm glad that we have them covered.  He loves being in the kitchen and bathrooms, so we'll put locks on the rest of the cabinets very soon.
