GD Advice

Just found out I have gestational diabetes. Haven't had my dr appt yet, and I know that diet and what not can vary depending on the severity, but I was wondering for those of you who have GD, what diet you had to stick to and what other things you had to do? Thank you!

Re: GD Advice

  • I wouldn't change anything drastically until you meet with the endo and the nutritionist.

But in general - GD is all about balance. Balance of carbs, protein and fat, as well as learning what works for you and what doesn't. (Turns out nothing is working for me lately, but that seems to be rare!)

Good luck and you can do it. Even on insulin should you need it, that isn't so bad.

  • I had to correct my eating: 6 small meals, carbs not exceeding 30 g breakfast, 45 g lunch, 30 g dinner....more protein and fat....more non starchy veggies, but more veggies....not too hard, but I must confess that i have devour in chocolate in the past couple days.
  • I just wanted to add to PP to not eat anything obviously sugaryhave and try to stick to whole grains until you meet with someone.

Its not that bad. Good luck! :D

  • I posted a similar question earlier this week and got some great responses. If you're interested, they're posted under the thread, "GD! GD."
