I'm sorry, I'm not sure if we discussed this yet. Is anyone planning to sign LO up for swim lessons this summer? I live in AZ and we have a pool, so I am really wanting to do the swim lessons where they teach them to roll onto their backs and float to safety if they ever manage to fall in water. I haven't committed to any of them yet, but am looking in to it. I was curious if anyone else was planning on doing it as well? Has anyone with older children done it at a young age and did you like it?
So far LO isn't terribly thrilled about being in the water, so I was hoping if we did something like this it would make him feel more comfortable in the water.
Re: Swim Lessons?
We've just done mommy and me lessons so far.
What you're describing is what I'd call "Infant self-rescue" swimming lessons. I'd like to do those before we go on vacation in August.
I've heard good things about them.
"A new baby is like the beginning of all things--wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities."
Yes, that is what I'm thinking. I've heard good things online, but I don't know anyone IRL who has actually done them.
I might do that this weekend too. I found the place I think I want to go to, but I need to check it out in person, and get the schedule.
We start mommy and me swim classes on June 8th at a local pool, I'm so excited just to get her into the water and hopefully teach her to be comfortable in it.
I definitely want O to take swim lessons. I mean look at the photo below...she's ready for the water. Okay, okay... maybe I just wanted to share one of her 6 month pics
.
But seriously, our parks and rec says they'll only start lessons at 18 months. Boo. Guess I'm going to have to look for a private instructor. Blah. My little brother was put in the water super early (born end of May and in the pool that same summer) and has been a little fish ever since. It does make a big difference when you introduce them to it at a young age, IMO.
.
This is exactly how I feel. That is a bummer your DH isn't on board. I asked some of my friends with babies a little older (11 and 12 months) if they had done it, or would do it. Both were turned off by the cost and time committment. I'm thinking, my baby's life is worth the cost and time...
OMG, what a cute pic!
That's a bummer they don't do swim lessons until 18 months. Are there any other places that do them, besides parks and rec in your area? I am in Phoenix, so there are tons of different places/companies that do different types of swim lessons here. Parks and rec has them starting at 6 months too I think, but I am looking at other places.
Thanks!! I sure hope there are other places...haven't really looked into it much yet. I'm in the Atlanta area so not exactly near any water but I'm sure I can find a private instructor- just may cost a fortune. My ILs have a pool so she needs to learn.
For sure! In my area it's 365.00 My dad is paying for it thankfully! But her life is worth way more. Ill come up with the time. It's 10 min a day 5 days a week for 4 weeks. It's relatively close by so ill make it work! 105.00 for registration and 65.00 a week.
Wow, that is pricey, but again, totally worth it. The place I am looking at costs a bit less than that, but I don't know about the schedule just yet. I need to find that out because sometimes it is hard to find things that are only evenings and weekends as both DH and I work full-time.
You should look up SWIMKids online. I think they have locations in several cities. If you are interested in the Infant Rescue type of lessons that is. I am going to look at a SWIMKids location here, but haven't seen it in person yet.
What a cutie! Where did you get that suit?
Awesome! Thanks so much!
Thanks!! Got it from Gap...but it was a Gap Outlet so not sure if they still sell it online??
