UO

Anyone have a UO today?

Mine is that I hate when teachers say that they work and plan during summer. I don't work during summer-it's my time off! I am lucky to have the time off with DD but that is why I chose this career. I don't know any teacher that 'works' during summer.

Re: UO

  • To go along with the teacher thing, since my DH is a high school teacher...

I hate when people imply that teachers get paid enough since they don't work in the summer and have spring/winter breaks.  DH gets paid CRAP for the amount of work he does.  He's at work from 7:45am until 4pm daily (school runs 8:30-3:30), and then comes home and does AT LEAST one hour of work every night (correcting papers, putting grades in the system, calling parents about problem children, etc).

AND he has deal with children all day long, many of whom have parents that clearly don't give a crap about their children respecting others, doing their homework, or god forbid, actually learning the material.

The fact that the future of our country is a direct reflection on what this generation is taught, and that a lot of teachers barely make more than minimal wage... it makes me want to vomit.

    Vent over :)

I agree to an extent. Do you think there is an age where it is not as acceptable? For example,a 2 year old at Target having a meltdown vs. an 8 year old throwing a tantrum, not sitting still and behaving at a restaurant. Toddlers are buttholes, but an older child should know better.

  • I am proud to breastfeed. However, I do not think women's breasts are just for nourishment for our children. This rant comes to you because of an article that my cousin posted on Facebook saying that women should go topless because men go topless and all women's breasts are for is feeding kids, not for any sexual purpose. I wanted to post on her wall that if she didn't think breasts had any sexual purpose then her boyfriend wasn't doing it right. Plus, that basically she is putting down a whole group of women who don't breastfeed saying that they aren't worthy women since they don't breastfeed and therefore are using their bodies wrong.

Also, do not complain about you being uncomfortable because you are pregnant on Facebook when others would love to be in your shoes.

In other news, I think I need to delete my Facebook page because I am not mature enough to ignore idiots.

  • I have another brought to you by a cooking show I am watching. I hate, hate, hate chicken wings. The bone and veins make me gag. I also cannot stand to sit with someone eating them, the people that insert the whole wing in their mouth and suck the meat off sends me off the deep end. Ick! I love boneless wings or Buffalo chicken dip though.

I know that there are some school teachers on here, so this is NOT a bash against teachers in any way.  But, when it is time for DD to go to school, I believe we will be homeschooling.  The public schools where we live are atrocious and way overcrowded.  We will find other activities, and maybe a home school co-op to participate in for socialization.  I never thought I would feel this way, but I do!

I'm with you on this one. My SO likes to order wings with his pizza - There was one pizza place in particular that got to me. After the second time I ran to the bathroom to be sick, wings were banned from the house. I'm secretly glad that he hasn't started ordering them again.

I'm always hesitant to say this out loud, but I agree.  I live in a small city and while there are some nice areas (like where we live), there are some bads ones too.  We're still trying to figure out which elementary school we are zoned for, but if it's the one that I think it will be, we'll most definitely be looking at other options.  There's a charter school that looks promising, but there's no busing, which may make it tricky.

  • Mine UO is that I don?t eat crawfish. I actually stray away from eating anything that resembles the ?real live? thing; it kinda creeps me out. So I don?t eat crawfish, lobster, the jumbo shrimp that come on Pappasitos shrimp enchiladas, or hen?just to name a few things.

Even more weird is that since having DD it?s been tough for me to eat meat. I keep neurotically thinking about what if we were hunted and cooked?specifically what if my daughter was. Maybe my piece of chicken was a daughter or mother. I?ve never been a vegetarian, but I?m swaying on that line these days. Go away crazy thoughts because I want my meat back, lol.

I've had at least one new class thrown at me each of my 7 years teaching, and the first school I taught at didn't even have a foreign language curriculum.... I had to write it myself.... so I've done a heck of a lot of work over summers. I always envied those teachers who could manage to take that time off completely, but it was never me. And, no, of course I never got paid enough for all the extra work, esp. teaching in private schools, but we all know teachers aren't in it for the money....it's all about the free treats the kids bring in on their bdays! Jk haha!

  • I have one more....I judge people when they smoke around their kids. More specifically when they are in the car and the smoke is blowing back into their child's face! I am a former smoker and I believe to each their own, I honestly don't care if you smoke or not. However...I truly believe that once you have a kid you have a responsibility to keep them away from the smoke, especially the babies! It breaks my heart when someone comes in with a baby and they reek of smoke and the baby smells too, that poor baby is getting the second hand smoke and he/she can?t do anything about it

  • Now for my UO...

I don't understand why some ladies...not necessarily on this board....get all peeved at family members wanting to hold their babies. I love that LOs have very enthusiastic grandparents and aunts and want to encourage relationships with them...I mean, it's not like these relatves will ever replace me. :p Also, I spend the majority of my time juggling two LOs and definitely welcome the break if someone else wants to hold a baby for a few minutes!

I 100% agree! My SIL would never let anyone hold her kid. We would all want to hold him and love on him and she would basically not let any of us (even when he was older not just a newborn and it wasn't like it was even flu season when he was born!)

I also have another UO, I cannot stand the words preggly, preggers,or prego. I can feel my eye twitch when I hear or read them. A very good friend of mine would hug me when I was pregnant and say " I won't leggo my preggo." Made me want to junk punch him.

Yes. I do side eye older kids, but I also try to remember that even I throw fits and I'm in my 30's. Not at the mall or anything though. Lol. I was reading something about a 3 year old having a meltdown at a grocery store and some people were outraged. It just pizzed me off.

Our public was NOT an option for DS. He goes to a charter, it's a lottery to get in, thank goodness we did. I also had him on the list for other charters, but this was our top choice.

    I agree.

This kind of goes with this and the homeschooling UO. I don't like the way the American school system is set up. I don't believe children were made to be sitting still for such long periods, I don't think they should have so much homework at such an early age, and I don't believe standardized testing is an accurate or fair way to measure how much a child knows. I am considering homeschooling for these reasons. This is not a slight against teachers by any means. Teachers are underpaid and overworked and have too many children in their classes to give each child the individual attention they may need to succeed. The whole system is flawed.

  • The teacher thing...the average salary in my district is $70k.  My neighbor is a 31 year old gym teacher with just a bachelor's and makes 65k.  He definitely isn't doing anything but lounging poolside during the summer.  He complains about not making enough money as a teacher.  Whaaaa?  I want to throttle him.  Our district pays teachers quite well, but most others in neighboring districts are not so lucky!  He's a douche in general, though.  I was secretly a little happy when he broke his foot playing basketball and is now stuck on crutches for 6 weeks.  I know that probably makes me evil.

Meh, gym teachers don't count.....Wink Stick out tongue As for the homeschooling post, I agree. I went to private school, was homeschooled for awhile, sisters went to public school, and I am a teacher (SAH now though) and can definitely say that the education system is inherently flawed. I am considering homeschooling when LOs get to be school-age, but it's honestly going to depend on them and their temperaments....also from experience I know that some kids do great with it, and others are better served in a classroom environment, as imperfect a setting as it is.

Man, I am all over this thread today.....:)

  • I don't like my husband's cousin's daughter.  She's 6yrs old, looks like a line backer, and is out of control.  Yes her mother has issues and I'm sure part of her acting out is because of this, but, she's constantly being taken care of my my hubby's 72yr old aunt, and this little girl has given the aunt bruises, it's seems like she bounces her body off the walls and it sounds like she's in the attic when she's actually in the apt below us.  This is the only thing my mil and I disagree about.  She want's me to feel bad for the little girl, but, I just don't like her. Hubby and I have forbidden this little girl to be around our baby without us being there.

It depends on the wings.  If they are only marinated and grilled then gross, but, if deep fried ala KFC or Chinese chicken wings then yummy, AS LONG as the wings are dark brown; there is nothing worse than pale Chinese chicken wings.

DSs school is Montessori through fifth grade and the don't even have desks for those grades. They have rugs, couches, beanbags.... I'm a little jealous. I think standardized testing is crazy too.

I've had several UO this week, and some of them may touch a nerve with ppl on here, but here goes

    1) i hate when people smoke out the window of their car in a drive through...maybe the person behind you isn't a smoker and doesn't want your smoke being sucked up by your ac and piped into their car

    2) if you choose not to vaccinate your kids, good for you, but do not be all judgy of those of us who do...not everyone who chooses to vaccinate is a brainless zombie who just does what their told..some of us did research and decided it was the best option for us.

    3) i work in a call center, and it pisses me off to no end when people do not properly end a call...you can say "thanks", you can say "bye", you can even say "up yours" (j/k) but just hanging up when you deem the call is over is annoying as crap!

  • Ok, this might not be a true UO, but DAMN PEOPLE! VOTE FOR YOUR SCHOOLS!

I believe that a school should have and pay for a school librarian to be in school every day, from start to finish. You are NOT allowed to b*tch about our nation's education failing, when you don't vote to increase $ to the school, and to hire the librarian.

And, it's an even bigger mess, when the school needs to take said librarian and have her sub in a class instead, closing the library for an ADDITIONAL day.

Seriously, I never thought this would be a UO, but damn. The school library should be open for more than 20 hours a week. :(
