Peeing through diaper at night

My 1 year old son keeps peeing through his diaper at night. He usually sleeps from 7 to 7 which is great, but I'm not sure what to do because when he wakes up in the morning, he has peed through his diaper. I've tried a few different brands and types of diapers, but I haven't found one yet that works. Anything you've found that works for this? Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated! Thanks :)

  • We had the same problem and tried every brand with no luck.  I had to end up buying cloth inserts to put inside the disposable diaper. It's a pain to have to wash them all the time, but it was literally the only thing that worked for us.

  • I also used cloth (hemp) inserts in DS's disposables, which worked pretty well.  However, the thing that made the most difference was cutting out the bedtime bottle.  We moved it up to right after dinner and then gave him an hour or two to get some of it out of his system before bed, then eliminated it completely probably at 13 months or so.

  • Have you tried going up one size?

  • I also vote for going up a size in a nighttime diaper. DD was in a size four nighttime long before she was in a size four regular.
  • Going up a size has always worked for us when it becomes a problem. I have heard that doubling up can help too, but I've never tried it b/c it seems like it would be so uncomfortable and bulky to wear two diapers!

Have you tried to size up for overnights? DD wears a size 4 during the day and 5 at night.

  • another vote for going up a size overnight.

We use Huggies Overnites size 5 (she's in Luvs 4s during the day).

We use diaper doubler, or diaper boosters. I found them at babies r us, and they are disposable.

  • We went up a size and bought a diaper cover. We make sure to change just before he goes down. It's worked wonders.

  • I think I'll start with moving up from a size 4 to 5 for the overnight diaper and then try the other suggestions if that doesn't work. Thanks for the ideas!

  • We went up a size in the huggies overnights and used a diaper booster like a PP mentioned. Got them at babies r us too. Good luck, it's a pain when they're soaked along with their sheets.

We use Huggies overnights and have never had a leak.  Also, with a boy, you need to put his penis downward.

  • I second the diaper boosters. Its like a maxi pad without the plastic backing. We used them with my ds 4 years ago and now with dd. It was a better deal at babies r us but you can also get them on amazon.

  • we seem to usually have this problem when the diaper is getting too small, if I move up a size even if it kinda seems big, it fixes the problem. the other thing you can try is to use a diaper cover, thirsties makes nice ones, you can find them on amazon. good luck

DS woke up soaked every day until I finally bought Huggies Overnites. He was at the top end of his size at the time, so I went up a size. Now we use the Parent's Choice overnight diapers from Walmart because they're so much cheaper. They're not quite as effective as the Huggies (they wick a little bit, so occasionally DS wakes up with a wet spot around one of the leg bands), but they're still a thousand times better than any regular diaper we ever tried.
