So this is totally random but I am quite distracted at work today and my head is full of nonsense so...
DH really wants a small farm. I love old stone houses. So I found a farm for sale near us and the house is a gorgeous old stone house built in 1800. As I am looking at the pictures I am thinking that the house is so old, I wonder if it may be haunted. DH travels a lot and so it is just DS and I home alone and in thinking about whether I would want to go look at this place or not the fact that I would be freaked out to be there alone really enters into my mind.
Is that totally crazy or does anyone else have the same fears?
Re: Do you believe in haunted houses?
I don't necessarily believe in haunted houses, however, up the block from our home a man shot his girlfriend and then himself in the kitchen and I now call that house the "murder house." I would not want to live there knowing that happened there.
Our house is an older home that was owned by the same couple for almost it's entire history. At some point, that couple died but their daughter continued to live there and we bought the house from her. I never asked if either parent died in the home but I wouldn't surprise me if they did. So long as it wasn't a gruesome death it doesn't bother me.

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
This Cluttered Life
I totally believe in haunted houses. I used to live in one. I know this sounds insane and selfish, but I just lost my son at 19 days old in my home, and I wish he would let me know he was here. I tell my DH, I wish he would drop something, or crap, throw something in my direction. I know when someone haunts though, they are not at peace, well, so I've heard, so I guess I should be lucky he's not hanging around.
I would go look at the house though. You'll get the vibes as soon as you walk in. You are very lucky to live in a place where buying a farm is an option. I live in a city and would love a farmhouse. lol Good Luck. Let us know how it goes.
I agree re: the workload and not sure if I can manage it or not. I am sure I would need to get some help. This is a dream of DH's though so I am open to exploring it.

Yes. We lived in an old manor house in England. I was very young at the time, but my dad told me stories about the "blue lady" - a ghost who supposedly haunted the house.
He had been skeptical himself, but then one night he was in my room putting me to bed. We were the only people in the house. He saw something pass by my door in the hall. He stepped out into the hall to make sure it wasn't my mom who had maybe come home. but nope - there was no one there.
So.... yes.

OK ECB - you are totally not helping w/my paranoia...if something like that happened and I was home alone w/DS on a 70-acre farm w/no one around I would lose it. And then move out the next day. :-)
Oh and this house is called a "manor house" in the listing description.
I could have written this myself! And I have no business opening this thread because I just scare myself.
Sorry to hear you lost your son. Sending you T&Ps and big hugs. You sound like a very positive, strong, and wise lady.
Any anyone who loves to read about ghosts should check out James Van Praagh's books. They send chills down my spin, but in a good way.
Hugs!
I'm so very sorry for your loss. Your wish is not at all insane or selfish. Hugs.
To the OP: I do believe in haunted houses and am pretty sure I've lived in a couple, but I don't think you can assume that the age of the house = ghosts. Go check it out and if you like it burn some sage.
It is funny, I have always been a city/suburb girl, and after I started thinking about the house being haunted then I started thinking about living basically around no one and I think that would make me nervous too. My friend lives on a farm in this general area, and she never locks her doors, but I would feel more like you do. So this farm house dream is seeming less and less realistic...
Aside from my fear of ghosts in an old home, this is my other exact fear about living in the country. I have a little fantasy about living in the country with some land and a beautiful view, and then I snap myself out of it by thinking of the Truman Capote book "In Cold Blood" (which was based on a true story.) This is pretty much what happened to a family that was murdered by two psychpaths. I, too, realize that this could happen in the city or suburbs but it's the no one around to hear you that freaks me out the most. Nope, I think I'll stay in my nice suburban house - with the doors and windows locked!
