IUI #3 on Friday - TWW here we come...

Hi Everyone,

My 3rd IUI will be this Friday, and I am feeling the need for some support and reassurance, so I thought I would start a new post. Let me know if any of you have any wise words of wisdom for me!

For those of you who don't know me yet, here is a quick summary of our journey so far:
My wife and I have been together for 8.5 years, and married in August 2012.
We started our TTC journey in early February 2013.
HSG on 2/4/13 - all clear!
IUI #1 - 3/30/13 (unmedicated and unmonitored cycle, surge on CD14 and IUI on CD15) - BFN
IUI #2 - 4/24/13 (still unmedicated, but monitored cycle, 1 dominant follicle measured at 21mm, surge on CD13 and IUI that afternoon) - BFN
IUI #3 - took Femara CD4-8, u/s on CD12 showed 2 measurable follicles on the right side at 17mm and 14.5mm, no surge detected naturally yet, going to trigger with an ovidrel shot tonight and IUI will be this Friday at 8:30AM.

They say the third time is the charm, so I am trying to stay hopeful and positive and focus on that. I have felt that the Femara slowed down my cycle this month (it seemed that my follicles were not as mature at CD12, and also I have not detected a surge on my own yet as of CD14 (today), which is late for me. In my efforts to focus on the positive, I am telling myself that the slowing down of my cycle is a good thing, and it is giving my follicles more time to mature, etc. I know that timing is key, and that is why I am glad I didn't surge on my own yet and we are going to trigger with ovidrel this time to help ensure the timing.

Anyway, that is our story.
Gearing up for another TWW starting in a couple of days.
I took Friday off from work to give myself a 4 day weekend to kick off this wait --it just felt like the right thing to do!

So, if any of you have any words of wisdom, and experiences with Femara, or positive stories about IUI #3, I would love to hear them! Thanks! :)

Fresh IVF Cycle in September 2013 resulted in 18 mature eggs, 16 fertilized, 12 made it to day 5.     Hi again! I haven't been on the site during my 2 weeks of down time since the BFN, and came back today to see your post. I'm excited that you are onto your next IUI. No words of wisdom, but good luck! And you have me to go through it - in cyberspace- with you. :-)

     We had our first IUI last month with a BFN- unmonitored and unmedicated, and I still have no idea when I ovulated. So this cycle will be monitored and with the Ovidrel trigger shot. I decided to jump in to the whole treatment system and I've been journaling all symptoms/cervical stuff since CD1. At least I will have a heck of a lot more info this time around. I will probably do the IUI next week, but monitoring begins tomorrow on CD12.

    Good Luck! IUI #3 was the lucky one for us... Hopefully it will be for you also! It was actually my hardest IUI, the procedure itself was painful and it took almost 45 minutes to get through my cervix and I had a lot of cramping, my other IUIs were pain free and lasted less then 15 minutes.  I thought for sure something wasn't right bc everything just seemed harder that round. We are now almost 14 weeks, so I think that third time is a charm. 

    Try to relax, on my third IUI I also broke down and stopped being so strict on my diet, drank a glass of wine at night if I came home after a long day at work, and tried my best to just feel normal and not confined by the TTC process.  Not sure what did the trick but something worked!

    Good luck, candimc26! Let me know how your ultrasound goes today. Sounds like we will be in the TWW together for a bit.

    I did the ovidrel trigger shot last night -- it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be -- and my IUI is tomorrow AM at 8:30. Just trying to stay calm, relaxed and positive...

    Thanks! I am very hopeful that this will be it for us too! I have heard that #3 was the charm for a lot of people, so fingers crossed!

    Sending good vibes your way and will be thinking about you during the TWW. Our doctor gave us the option of taking Letrazole when my cycle started and it doesn't make more follices, it just helps the ones you have grow bigger. We triggered with Ovidrel and had our IUI about 19 hours later and are currently 10w3d with twins! Keep us posted!!

    I second the wine thing. I relaxed and continued my daily routines during our TWW. That included runs, margaritas (just once), and lots of relax time.

    We're queer. I'm 33, have severe stage 4 endo, and had both fallopian tubes removed. My love ("Manada" on the boards, 32) was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. We did Partner IVF (my eggs, her uterus). We lost our twins Tavin and Casey at 21 weeks gestation.

    Our IUIs
    with @Manada: IUI# 1-7 (December 2012- September 2013) all BFN. Tried natural, femara, clomid, puregon/follistim, clomid and menopur combo, both the ovidrel and HCG triggers.

    Our IVFs:
    IVF #1 my eggs November/December 2013: Cancelled IVF due to poor response

    IVF #2 my eggs/Manada's uterus January/February 2014
    BCPs and lupron overlap Stimmed: 1/22-2/2: Bravelle and Menopur (dosage ranged from B300 and M150 to B375 and M150 to B300 and M225)
    2/4 retrieved 10 eggs. Endo was much worse than expected. Only 3 eggs fertilized; February 7 transferred two day 3 embryos, froze one. All great condition.
    BFP eve of 6dp3dt; Beta 1 (11dp3dt): 110; Beta 2 (13dp3dt): 175; Beta 3 (15dp3dt): 348; Beta 4 (19dp3dt): 2222; Beta 5 (21dp3dt): 4255
    1st ultrasound (3/6  6w 1d): TWINS!!!! Twin A measuring 6w1d with a heartbeat of 118bpm. Twin B measuring 6w0d with a heartbeat of 113bpm. 

    ***July 18, 2014 we lost our beautiful babies at 21 weeks gestation. They were born too early. Tavin Sara T. and Casey Elizabeth T. are beautiful and precious and we will love them and miss them forever.***

    FET #1 December 2014
    Intralipid infusion on Dec 10. Transfer of 1 day 3 nine-cell embryo into my uterus on Dec. 19. (acupuncture immediately before and after)
    BFP on Dec. 27; Beta 1 Jan 2 (14dp3dt): 665, Beta 2 Jan 4 (16dp3dt): 1859, Beta 3 Jan 6 (18dp3dt): 4449, Beta 4 Jan 10 (22dp3dt): 12,251.

    Thanks for the good luck wishes, everyone!

    I am a little nervous about the timing now... do you think having the IUI 36 hours after the trigger shot is too late?

    No. 36 hours is what almost every doctor does. The vast majority of people ovulate something like 36 to 40 hours after the trigger, which is why they do it then.

    I just wanted to jump in and say that our first cycle with femera which was number 4 for us was our lucky one. My doctor and friends who work in fertility have said they don't know why but they do tend to see better results with it but hesitate to start with it because if the expense. And clomid can work just as well for some. I wish you the best of luck and definitely keep your hopes up.

    I will also jump in and say that my successful iui was also my most painful but probably still took about 1520 minutes instead of maybe 10. Not that that means anything.... Also my successful iui was done about 36 hours after my trigger. Oh and all the medications for fertility slowed my cycle down, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. It just makes waiting on the tww side painful sometimes because you have to wait longer for af. I wouldn't worry about it though. This is the lucky no. 3 for you!

    You ladies are awesome and you are all making me feel so much better about our odds tomorrow. I am very hopeful that this will be it for us, and I will definitely keep you all posted. I will post and update after the IUI tomorrow. I am a little obsessed with beating our sperm count and motility number each time HAHA... so I will be excited to see what our numbers are post-wash and thaw.

    I love the positivity in this post! Yay for juicy follicles, ha! 

    Had my first monitoring U/S today, CD12. Follicle size 12 & 13. They want me to return in 2 days. I know my follicles will still  be too small, and I'd rather return in 3 days. Is this stupid? Should I just obey doctor's orders? Someone talk some sense into me! I usually ovulate CD 19-21, but I did ovulate on day 15 one time (in the last 2 years). I need experienced advice. Just don't want to waste time/money being in their office more than necessary.

    Hi KH, I didn't chime in earlier because I didn't have any luck with a BFP with my two rounds on Femara... but it certainly helped me to grow bigger and better follicles. I hope it does for you and that those swimmers find one easily!

    Hi! It may seem excessive but if this is a medicated cycle they tend to check often and you may end up having to go in two days in a row. I know it is frustrating and so hard to get the timing perfectly right. I'm betting you will probably follow your doctor's orders. Some RE's really like to keep checking so they can be as certain as possible with the timing... Hang in there!

    IUI#3 is now complete! 

    Sperm count was 49 million with 34% motility. Lower motility than last time, but that's ok. The Dr had a little bit of a hard time getting through my cervix this time, but after a few minutes she got the catheter in and said that everything looked good. Feeling fine but pretty tired. Enjoying some couch time this afternoon with the dog! :)

    How was your IUI? Did you have a monitored cycle? 

    I am not patient either, but I am trying to firmly believe that this is it this cycle and the wait will be worth it - positivity!

    Also, I had the trigger shot this time and I have decided not to test out th trigger, so I won't be tempted to test too early because I am terrified of a false positive. I don't think we will test before 14dpiui, but if this isn't it AF will probably come before that...

     How about you? Thoughts on when/if you will test?

    This was probably my smoothest IUI so far but the cramps have been TERRIBLE! We were unmonitored this cycle but 50mg of clomid. we also had an HSG test this cycle. We have never done a trigger shot.

    We always say we aren't going to test and then we always do so who knows. I would like to say we'll wait the full 14 days but who knows!!!

    Hopefully we can help each other keep it together!!!

    Sounds good! I am usually pretty good at keeping it together for the first week of the wait, but then after that all bets are off HAHA! So I can take the first shift! 

    Hope your cramps are better today!

    I am feeling a bit bloated and gassy... And am tired but I can't seem to sleep (hence why I am posting at 6am on a Saturday!). Otherwise, nothing exciting to report yet, which I will take as a good sign.

    Well, even though I didn't sleep well last night and was feeling tired this AM I got an unexplained burst of energy today and got a lot done around my house -- cleaned out closets, reorganized closets and dressers, donated two bags of stuff to good will, did laundry, etc. I feel like I accomplished something so that is a good feeling. Maybe this is the world's fastest case of nesting! :)

    I was feeling great this AM, but I am a little crampy and achey now... feeling like going home and curling up on the couch (which is exactly what I am about to do!)
