I've tried regular squirt bottles and bottles meant for condiments. Those don't work at all, but the peri bottle I got from the hospital after giving birth is perfect. We have a small bathroom, so I can easily fill it with water, one handed, while holding the diaper over the toilet. It provides just the right amount of pressure to get poop off, without spraying it everywhere, it easily travels, and it was free.
We used flushable liners. You can wash them and use them twice if they don't poop in them, and they catch about 99% of poop (sometimes it would get balled up, but not often). Overall I really liked them, we never had a sprayer for DS1.
I used flushable liners. Imse vimse makes a brand that you can throw in with CD laundry if they don't poor and it protects the diaper when they do.
I found the sprayer sooo messy and really hated using it. So much that I've thrown away a couple of cheaper CDs rather than try to get them clean using that method.
