Condensed Bradley Classes?

The one Bradley instructor I'm considering (because she's close to our house and her class day/times work best with our schedule) does condensed Bradley classes.

Meaning, instead of doing the full 12 weeks of classes she offers 2 class session formats. One is 8 weeks (2.5 hours/week) or she also has a crash course session that's 4 weeks (3.5 hours/week). We're considering the 8 week session since it will be starting right when I start 3rd tri.

Has anyone done the Bradley course in a condensed format? We're still learning all of the material in the classes so we won't be missing anything, but are there any cons in your mind to learning the Bradley method in less than 12 weeks of classes?

TIA!

Re: Condensed Bradley Classes?

  • Our classes were 9 weeks, 3 hours per class. We thought the were really beneficial and provided us with tons of information. Obviously, with the 4 week course, there will be a lot left out. Does the instructor provide a syllabus that outlines what is covered in each class? That may help you make a decision but I would suggest the 8 week course.

  • I did the full 12 week class.  I loved it because it got us to "think" about our birth each week.  I do think it could have been condensed some though.  IMO the 8 week class would be great and should be enough time to get all the information.
  • I did my class in 3 weeks and it was totally fine, but we did a lot of reading on our own. If you do the condensed version, I would consider reading Henci Goer's Thinking Woman's Guide, Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way or the Birth Partner (Penny Simkin). My husband read The Birth Partner and he was amazing in the hospital.

We did a condensed course and it worked out just fine for us.  We had three classes total, each lasting three hours each.  The classes were spread out with one month in between, with our last class scheduled two weeks before my due date.  We had a lot of reading and homework to do on our own in between, but it worked out just fine for us.

  • Ours was nine weeks because our instructor was pregnant and her due date interfered with going any later into May.  It was fine.  Like PP said, you'll cover all the important stuff and can read the books on your own.

  • We're doing it condensed too.

Just because our classes didn't start until May and I'm due at the beginning of July.

We're the only couple in the class (the rest dropped out before it started, which was disappointing) but it means we can just do a little extra each time.
