Robaxin 750?

I was prescribed this today by my pain management doctor and I've been reading that it should only be taken if necessary and shouldn't be taken in early pregnancy. Now, a little background on myself, I have a really bad nerve disorder in my back that causes me a lot of pain, and the NP at the office suggested I try this muscle relaxer. I've been looking up that there are other safer options out there such as Flexeril and it's a class B instead of a class C like Robaxin is. First of all, I'm nervous about taking this medicine because of the fact that it's a muscle relaxer, and my uterus is a muscle, and also the fact it says not to use it in pregnancy especially early pregnancy because there's a chance it can cause abnormalities and cognitive issues in the developing fetus. I guess I'm confused as to why they'd prescribe this to me knowing that I'm pregnant. I plan on calling my OB in the morning to get her opinion also. I don't want to completely disregard my GP's prescription but I don't know, I guess I'm not completely comfortable with it. Has anybody ever taken this medicine, or know anything more about taking it in pregnancy? Or any medical professionals out there that can help shed some light on this, I would really appreciate it.

    I'm in the same boat as you. I have two ruptured discs in my lower back. Was it prescribed by your ob because I seriously thought robaxin was a no no.

    No, it was prescribed by my pain management doctor. I plan on calling my OB tomorrow to get her opinion on it because I just don't feel comfortable taking it with so many risks involved

    I know, I plan on it haha. I was just seeing if anyone had any experience taking it, or if anyone knows more about the drug.

    I do like robaxin when I'm not pregnant. If your pain management doctor tries to prescribe you gabapentin for your nerve pain please run in the other direction. It's terrible!! I experienced awful side effects.
    Sorry about your pain though. I really do understand where you are coming from. I have bad ridiculer pain in my left leg that travels all the way to the top of my foot.

    I've tried gabapentin before they knew what my condition was. It didn't help and I had terrible gastrointestinal side effects.

    Flexeril works just as well as robaxin but it will knock you the fluck out.

    I was on Flexeril for the past week which was monitored by my doctor and OB. I'd just ask if there are other options that you'd feel more comfortable taking.

    Thanks, I am going to definitely ask about the flexeril, it just seems like a safer option while pregnant.

    Got this from Internet : There have been reports of fetal and congenital abnormalities following in utero exposure to methocarbamol. Therefore, Robaxin should not be used in women who are or may become pregnant and particularly during early pregnancy unless in the judgment of the physician the potential benefits outweigh the possible hazards.

    Yeah this is what I was talking about in my original post, and a reason why it makes me nervous to take!
