Bug spray?

Does anyone know of any baby safe bug spray? It's getting to be warm enough for cooking on the grill and I'd like to have LO outside when it's cool enough but it gets pretty buggy out. I could leave her in the house when she's sleeping but when she is awake I'd like her with us. TIA!

  • I would imagine that if you can't put sunscreen on a baby under 3 months, bug spray may be out too but who knows

  • Our pedi said most are fine but his suggestion was to spray her clothes, let them dry then put on her or spray whatever she is sitting in so you don't have to spray her directly.

  • I've heard the dryer sheets work as bug repellent so maybe you could put a dryer sheet near her or in a small pocket on her clothes. That way you don't have the chemicals of the spray but she's still protected.

  • Ugh. The bugs are terrible here in SC already. I usually just put him in his carseat in the stroller if I'm doing yard things and put this baby carrier mosquito netting over him. It has elastic at the bottom so it really snaps around and protects him. They also make stroller and pack n play sizes. It's only like 5 and keeps gnats out too!

  • My DD was born in May 2011 and I was extremely sceptical about using anything. I think I used Avon skin so soft which has some kind of natural thing in it? I sprayed her clothes and all over me and we had the citronella outside, I barely used it as I then bought a Bug Off. You know the little machine that clips on your clothes? I plan to use that with DS this summer :) no chemicals or anything needed!

  • Thanks for all the tips. I don't want to use anything but definitely want to keep her safe. I've seen the netting for strollers and PnP but I'll have to look for car seat covers. I've heard about the dryer sheets too.
