I just got my k'tan and ordered it based on my pre-pregnancy size, but feel like it might be too big. DS seems to be sitting too low, what do you think?
That is my biggest fear with the K'tan. They say a Medium is a 10-12 in dress size, which I am not but I tried it on early in my pregnancy and it was very comfortable. I am tall. I don't know if that contributes. Yours does seem low!
It does look a bit loose. Do you have the waist band piece tied on there? I'd also suggest doing legs out tummy to tummy as you'll get a better position. Baby should be right where you'd hold him in arms so a bit higher on your chest. The k'tan sizing is about a size off IMO - although a hot wash and dry might help.
Ditto NC on switching to a tummy-to-tummy with legs out. A cradle hold is hard to get right/safe if you are a new wearer. (It looks as though your baby's chin may be resting on his chest, which is something you want to avoid and the other positions can make easier.)
In terms of fit: baby should be high enough that you can kiss his head without straining to reach. It is hard to tell from the picture, but he does look too low to do that.
All that said, good for you for jumping right into babywearing! Keep at finding the right thing and enjoy the hands-free cuddles.
I've heard from a lot of people that they had to go with a smaller size than they thought they'd need with the K'tan. This was true for me, too. I had one and had difficulty with it, but then exchanged it for the next size down and was able to get DD in more comfortably. And I agree with the PP -- be careful of chin touching chest. I had that problem, too, and it made me so nervous! Good luck, and definitely keep practicing baby wearing!
