Got SA #s back...devasted :(

Update...I got the #s back & it couldn't get much worse!  Count was only 1.4 million, and the kicker is that out of this small amount, only 1% were grade 3 sperm (vigorous but random)...0% were grade 4 (vigorous & straight).  78% of his sperm did not move at all!  So, only 1% of such a small count can even result in pregnancy.

I am so devastated.  I don't even know if this is fixable to the point that we could be successful!  The only thing that give me a small amount of hope is the fact that we have a child on our own, although it took a long time.  No idea how we got so lucky with these kind of #s!!  He is going to call tomorrow to make an appointment with the urologist.  I'm hopeful that we can figure out what's causing this & that there is a way to fix it!

If anyone else has any experience with such low numbers & motility, I'd love to hear about it.  I feel so lucky to have DS & I will be happy if he is all I ever have, but I'd love just one more.  It breaks my heart every time I hear him say he wants a little brother or sister! :(

  • Hugs! My SO has motility and count issues but he started taking Fertility Blend for men made by Daily Wellness, eating healthy and exercising and I got pregnant. Although my body failed me with a m/c it does give me hope that even with his issues. The supplements, diet and exercise seemed to help. My RE suggested he see a urologist which he will as soon as his medical coverage kicks in since he started a new job just to cover all our bases. Definitely look in to the Fertility Blend and seeing a urologist! I'm so sorry but I hope this helps!

Hugs! I remember getting our numbers back-- so devastating that we weren't even good candidates for IUI (we have declined IVF). I remember the tears driving home, our sad argument b/c he felt like he was the "cause" of the problem and couldn't just "fix" it.  It took us at least a month before we could address it together as a couple-- we both had to confront it and come to grips individually.  I'm so sorry.  I wouldn't wish these feelings on anyone.

  • I'm so sorry.  That really sucks.  I know of people with numbers like that who got pregnant with IVF and ICSI.  What a miracle your little boy is though!

  • So my husband had no motility. They said our chances were less than 10 with ivf. My husband wanted to adopt, but I wasn't ready for that option because I didn't want to regret anything. We had been trying on our own for over 5 years. My husband was 100 ok with donor sperm, I wasn't. But I had to compromise if I wanted to carry a child. Which my husband wanted for me as well. So we decided in ivf with ICSI with donor sperm. I let my husband pic the donor. I was scared to be apart of that. Sadly. On the day if our retrieval one of the nurses came in with a waiver to sign. The waiver states our sperm donor tested positive for CMV, which is of the herpes family, the strand that causes chicken poxs, mono, and cold sores. I wasn't ready for that. I started crying and didn't know what to say. I didn't want to stop since we were this far. So my husband says we will just use my sperm. Even though, at that point, we ivf was over for us. Our chances were so low. Well after ER they told us they added an agent to his sperm and were able to get a few sperm to use for ivf with ICSI. We had 10 eggs retrieved, 7 were mature, and my husband was able to fertilize 4 of them! It was a miracle. We did a 3 day transfer and 2 were put in me and 1 was frozen. I am now 17 weeks with twins, our first pregnancy. God is very good. Please hold on to hope! After my luck, I truly believe anything is possible.

Babycottom that is such great news!  My husband has very low motility and low sperm count.  1.2 mil.  This will be our first IVF we have done 5 IUI's unsuccessfully over 7 years.  I am so worried that IVF is not going to work either!  Seeing your post gives me hope!  Thank you
