I'm in the process of trying to potty train my almost 3 year old daughter. I think its because she is so busy playing that I cannot get her to go to the potty. We're still in diapers, but would like to have her potty trained by her third birthday in September. She has used the potty a few times, but even if I ask her if she needs to go she says no. I'm new at this since she is my first child. I was hoping some of you mommy's could help me out and give me some tips.
TIA
Re: Potty Training Tips
We just got rid of diapers completely and it seems to be working. He's been running around either naked from the waist down or with underwear. He doesn't want to go back to diapers, so I think he's motivated to use the potty. I picked regular times to ask remind him about using the potty and have been bribing him. "If you can go pee on the potty, we can get our boots on and go feed the ducks" (and also using mini chocolate chips).
We're on day 4 and he has not had a pee accident today although he did poop on the floor. I think he would have gone on the potty but I was cleaning it (he went where the potty chair normally sits).
Good luck!
Did a positive reinforcement based method with DD at 2y and she was fully day trained within five or six days.
i totally agree. My 3rd I tried the underwear only for a couple days and she just didn't get it or want to. We were getting really frustrated and she was close to 3 so I really felt like she should be getting it. We ended up giving it a rest for just 2-3 weeks and trying again. And she got it. I think the constant pressure and excitement and talk of going potty just put her off. By giving her a break we could kind of re-set things and start again.
I disagree. DD1 PTed in one day right around 3. I did not have to stay in my house for 3 days. She was not tethered to the toilet. I didn't have to set a timer or bribe her. It was easy peasy and SHE potty-trained, not me.
