Just curious

Does your doctor calculate your weight gain from what you told him/her at your first appointment, or what you were at at the first appointment? I couldn't even tell you what I was at before I got pregnant and it was a big guess, so now my doctor tries saying I already gained 20lbs at 20 weeks [im now 25] but it's really been bothering me! But if you go off what I was the first appointment [6weeks] I would have only gained 6lbs. I like that thought better lol

Re: Just curious

  • I got weighed at my first appointment I was 6 weeks. So that's the number we go off of on weight gain. I'm actually down 8 lb couldn't tell you how but im not complaining.

  • My doctor goes off what I was at my first appointment, but at my first appointment I weighed what I normally weighed. I am in the habit of weighing myself regularly just to make sure there are no crazy fluctuations.

I'm confused....so you gained 14 pounds in your first 6 weeks?

  • They didn't even ask me my weight at the first appointment that I recall but I know they took it (I remember stepping on the scale! haha) so they have to use the weight they took at that first appointment.

  • My OB wouldn't see me until I was 8 weeks and she used my weight from that appointment.

  • I use a MW and I weigh myself. I write it in my chart and they glance at it but have never said anything one way or another. I like it that way :-)

  • Well, my OB gets you in pretty much before the stick fries, so pre preg weight and first appt weight are pretty similar anyways. But, they weighed me and ask if that was about where I was pre preg. Which for me, it was v

My MW goes off the weight you told them, which kind of sucks because I weigh less at home (since I weigh myself first thing in the morning right before I get in the shower, don't need those pesky clothes adding weight!), and I used my pre-miscarriage pregnancy weight.  I had gained some with my miscarriage and then then I had a CP right before Christmas and kind of drowned my sorrows in lots of cookies, so I had definitely gained some before my first visit. I lost a lot with morning sickness, though, so I'm okay on overall weight gain even though I'm only supposed to gain 15 lbs. over what I told them was my pre-pregnancy weight.

So my dr thinks apparently! Lol she made me guess a weight that I was before I got pregnant, granted that was before Christmas time, and was also before I was even weighed an knew what I was currently at. I think ill go off of what I was at the first appointment, and even mention it to my dr that that's the weight I want to use. Especially since I'm sure I didn't gain much weight in 6 weeks!

I assume they are going based on what I was at my first appt which was at 9 weeks.
