Play kitchens

I'm killing myself slowly by trying to make a little decision on which play kitchen I should buy for Payton.

-Wooden with no lights or sounds?

-Plastic with lights and sounds?

What did/would you do?

Re: Play kitchens

  • I don't know about with or without lights and sound but I have seen a super cute all Red play kitchen at Costco.

     Here is the link.

  • We plan to go the wooden route when it's time to purchase Kaylin's first kitchen :) I try and limit the number of toys that require batteries. Maybe I'm a little bit of an extremist but I find toys with lights and sound get old really quick. I prefer when she can interact with a toy in her own way. It seems like her toys that don't light up or make noise entertain her for longer because she will do different things with them.
  • I know!  That's the one I want to get if I go wooden.  I'm just wondering if it'll keep P's attention...?  She plays with other kitchens without sound/lights at daycare but she's also playing with other little kids, so it may not matter as much with them interacting with her.  UGH!  Why is this so difficult!?
  • I just saw that red kitchen at Stupid prices when we were there the other day!  I think it was only 70-something dollars.   It was very cute too!
  • I am not much help.. I just returned that kitchen to costco.  Both of Mason's good friends are getting it for Christmas, so I decided to take ours back.  I like that it didn't need any batteries, but wasn't boring.  I think P would love it, and it looks like from the pp that the price as gone down.

  • I plan to buy a wooden one.  Especially because she is exposed to so many lights and plastic toys at daycare, I try to keep it pretty simple around home.  Melissa and Doug has all kinds of wooden "cutting" food that velcro together and can be cut in pieces.  Might be a great accessory.  I bought some for my niece last year and she and my nephew were both fascinated.
  • I don't know if it has lights and sounds, and it definetely isn't as cute as that red one, but Toys R Us is having a Door Busters sale today from 3pm to midnight and saturday from 6am-1pm and they have a Little Tikes Kitchen that comes with 38 food accessories for 49.99.  That is one of the best deals I have seen.

They have more kitchens on their website and lots of user reviews to read!

This one is great.  We have it.  It's a hit.  And a GREAT deal.  I spent literally MONTHS trying to find a good kitchen for a good price.

This one is small too, so you don't need a giant room for one.

I say no to sounds.  They can use their imagination.  There's a really cute wooden one at TRU now too.. it might be LIttle Tykes?  It's about $180 though.  But that was my second choice but I jsut thought it was too much.

Evie is the same way. ?I'm not opposed to toys that require batteries, but simple toys are her favorite.

  • When the time comes I am going to go with wood. My experience with the plastic toys is that the plastic fades/stains (think markers) and the decals never go on without bubbles, then eventually tear.

  • I'm going with wooden. There is some seriously awesome play food out there that is made of fabric and my girls love that stuff at the children's museum. We're getting them a kitchen for their birthday, I may need to check out the Costco one!

Oh, and my approach to toys is to just never replace the batteries lol.
