Plans to take away the Paci?

I'm dreading taking away the Paci, DD is an addict. I don't have plans to do it immediately but I'm certainly not looking forward to it.

Plans to take it away, anyone?

Success. Stories would be good to hear too!

Re: Plans to take away the Paci?

  • Nope. I'm not gonna poke the bear. I'm going to be the mom that has a 2 or 3yo walking around with a paci.

At least she's not gonna be walking around with a bottle full of soda, right?

Already did it. She was chewing through them and I wasn't going to keep buying them since she was intentionally ruining them. She chewed through the last one, I flipped the nipple inside out, told her it was broken, let her try it and then had her drop it in the trash. She has cried herself to sleep every night since then. It's been almost a month.nbsp;[:]

Oh my gosh, see this is what I'm affraid of. So sad...

  • P knows that she has to give it up soon as she wakes up from nap/in the morning. The paci goes "nuh night" and she puts it in a bowl on her dresser.

I do not plan to take it away at night for a long time. Its working for us, and she sleeps well. Not willing to ruin that!

Not sure if this is helpful or me bragging. we took it away at 4 months. she barely used it and spit it out at night/naps, so I just took them all away she never noticed, never fussed, never cared

This was DS, exaclty. Once he started rolling over, he would lose it at night and not seem to care.

Hope it goes just as seemlessly for you. GL!

  • I'm giving her until her 2.5 to 3-year mark, honestly.

  • I'm not messing with it until Baby Girl is sleeping a decent amount at night, so I'm sure he'll still have it after his birthday. He only uses it for sleeping, so it's not a major thing for me.

This. We discussed dropping the paci at her 18m pedi appt and she said to not even worry about it until then.

  • I'm not the least bit worried about it.  He only gets it for bedtime.  They offered it (as usual) at daycare for nap on Monday, and he said, "no!"  His teacher asked him if he was sure, and he said he didn't want it, went to sleep without it....so, he's done with them for DC naps at least.  Honestly, I plan to drop them for both boys at the same time, so I'll wait awhile.
