I had major leakage problems with huggies on my son when he was a newborn. Very rarely had a leak with Pampers. It depends on your baby's body shape on how the diaper will fit.
For brand new wittle babies, I like huggies because they make NB diapers with the fronts cut down to prevent getting caught on the umbilical cord. Once the cord falls off we like pampers and once our little one got into about size 3, we switched to target brand diapers. They are by far our favorite off brand cheap diapers!

Does pampers not have the nb diapers to help with the umbilical cord?
I CD, but once they are STTN and bigger we switch to Huggies overnights. None of the CD methods for concentrated overnight urine worked for us so the Huggies have been great for absorption.
huggies at the hospital then used pampers sensitive. Until DD developed a nasty rash. Then we switched to Fisher Price and have never looked back. They are awesome. I have had to use Huggies a few times and they leak so badly.

Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive - I love the strip that tells you when they're wet especially when they're younger and these were the ones our hospital used as well. Now that she's bigger we use those or Pampers Cruisers. We received a box of Huggies from a friend that fit her finally now and are using them since we have them. They don't seem to leak, but I don't like the way they clump when they are wet.
We did not care for Target brand or 7th Generation.
Pampers for sure. Huggies leaked for us and are super bulky. Once our daughter for into size threes we switched to Luvs and even Walmart brand works great!
I love Pampers Swaddlers. And DH loved them bc they had the line that would turn blue if the baby was wet
We use Huggies now with our 20m old bc they are cheap at Costco I have found that at least with size 3 and up, they work just as well as the Pampers, but they seem more bulky to me than Pampers. We never tried anything but Swaddlers before size 3.
I used Pampers because Huggies leaked...but then I found the Target brand is so much cheaper and works just as good! Like $10 cheaper than what I was spending on Pampers!

Pampers has the umbilical cord notch but only in the NB size.
Hmm. I feel like a fool! I've never been able to find them, or I've never really looked either. I'll have to look for them, if that's the case then pampers for babes and target brand for when they get bigger!
With DD we used pampers and when she hit size 3 we switched to Target brand. We will do the same thing with this LO but will use Huggies if we receive them as a gift.
I've always preferred Huggies out of the two. I like their pure and natural diapers best. Also when they start sleeping through the night, their nighttime diapers are great. I used cloth for the first couple months and then went to disposables. We used mostly Seventh Generation actually.
Pampers gave DD horrid rashes but it was the drymax and I think they've changed that. I'll never use them again. But we never had issues with huggies but plan to use luvs, i know pampers makes them, newborn with DS and see how they work.

I prefer huggies as I used them with my oldest who's 8yrs old now so I will try to use them again but every baby is different. I do have luvs and pampers on reserve just in case. However I like to use pampers wipes oppose to huggies which I think are to thick but I will use everything I have from shower unless she's allergic.
I liked only pampers swaddlers for sizes Newborn and 1, maybe 2. After that, we were able to use different brands without any consistent leaking issues. I like Costco's Kirkland brand and Huggies for older babies.
While this isn't part of the OP's question, my all-time favorite wipes are the Costco Kirkland ones. They are thicker and wetter than other brands. DD got diaper rashes from any other wipes for the first year!
Re: Pampers vs. huggies
we used pampers until month 3 when we switched to cloth
now if we need a disposable we use Huggies Pure and Natural - I like them better than pampers for her size now (3/4 in disposables)
Luvs are the ultimate cheap suck.
I just wanted some other opinions! Thanks for your input ladies!

Pampers sensitive. All others gave DD horrible rashes, blisters and sores.
