Pregnant after a Loss

Harmony vs Mat21

My doctor said they will use the harmony test to screen for abnormalities at my 12 week apt. I asked her about Mat21 and she said that they do Harmony at their office. I feel like Mat21 is a more in depth test? Is this right? I am just worried that if Harmony provides some questionable results we will have to move on to more invasive testing and Mat21 would be more spot on the first time? Or am I reading into this wrong and the tests are similar enough? TIA

Re: Harmony vs Mat21

  • I think that different places offer different tests. My lab does the panorama. I think they are all pretty good and comprehensive?

I did a little bit of research and it looks like Harmony will give you a ratio based result while Mat21 will give you either a positive or a negative result. However I've read that Mat21 has a better accuracy rate.

  • They are very very similar. Mat21 tests ALL the chromosomes, but they will only give you abnormal results for 13, 18 and 21 (I think they are working on sex chromosome abnormalities for future). Harmony ONLY looks at 13, 18 and 21 so it's cheaper for one thing.

  • I thought they both gave you a YES/NO result, but I could be wrong. I know Mat21 does.

We did Harmony with Zachary and got a "no" result.  Accuracy is 98% which was 1% different from an amnio.

Mat21Plus now tests the sex chromosome. Turner's was our main concern and we did the Mat21Plus and got results in about 13 days on 13, 18, 21, and found out it's a boy.

Same for us, but we got our results in 8 days I believe.  That was in early February, and at that point Harmony wasn't testing sex chromosomes.  I would talk to a genetics counselor to learn the differences among all the tests, or you can call the companies yourself, or research on their websites. • I had the Harmony test done.  It gives you a result in the form of a probability/statistic.  My odds went from 1/82 based only on my age to less than 1/10,000 for three trisomies 21,18, & 13.  I was told that if my insurance does not pay for the test, that it would cost me $795.  I had this done on April 4, 2013 and received the results on April 22, 2013.  They say they test for x/y, but my test did not have that option.  I am trying to post a pic of my results.  I haven't posted a pic before so forgive me if it doesn't work.
