STMs, speaking of used carseats...

Title for mobile users: STMs, speaking of used carseats...

Are you planning to reuse your infant seat for the new baby? DS is 17 months, so the infant seat we have isn't expired or anything, but for some reason I'm wary of reusing. There weren't options with side impact protection in infant seats when we purchased his SnugRide, so I'm wondering if I should upgrade to the side impact protection seats or not. I know it's a bit early for me to be freaking about this, but just wanted to see what others have done/plan to do.

  • I am planning to use the ones we have used with DD.  None of them have been in an accident and they are not expired.

  • We always buy new and upto date seats with each child. It is one of our first baby equipment purchases.

  • I am reusing ours because it will not be expired, but I would replace it if money wasn't a huge deal. There's nothing wrong with the one we have, but I HATE the handle. I am excited to get a double stroller because I hate the stroller that came with the travel system.

  • We have a snugride as well, but it has side impact protection. DS is 11 months, so they must have just came out with it when we got it. It's gender neutral so we do plan on using it for this lo.

Yes, we will be reusing DD's seat. We got the Graco Snugride 35 when it came out with the new weight limit. We kept it in very good condition so I feel comfortable using it again.

  • If we have the extra funds to buy a new one we will. Because ds had bad reflux, so ours is a little stained, but not gross or anything. Otherwise if we don't, we will still use it.
Eta: I am going to try for a new one though, because like another poster said. I HATE the handle on ours too. I like the ergonomic ones.

This! It's practically brand new and has never been in an accident.

Edit - oops mine is a Chico key fit 30 not the graco

  • I think I may have to do more research. My main hesitation with reusing the SnugRide35 is that is was downgraded by Baby Bargains below the Britax and Chicco due to side impact protection. It looks like maybe those seats have a side impact rebound bar and additional protection, but I need to better understand the differences.

We're planning to reuse our Britax B-safe; DD is 12 months old and it's in good shape.  I was really happy with it, in combination with the B-agile for her.  We haven't really done any double stroller research, but that would be the only thing that might make us buy something new..

We will reuse ours. Lucia just stopped using it about a month ago, it's in good shape, and it was never in an accident.

  • I'm reusing my car seat.  It's not expired and not been in a accident so I dont' see a reason not to.
  • Yes I'm reusing it.  I know nothing dangerous has happened to it, no accidents, not expired, etc, so there's no way I could justify the expense of getting a new one.

ETA: DD is only 8 months old though, so our infant carseat (Britax B-Safe) was made in 2011...

  • Hmm, I never thought about not reusing our infant seat.  We've used it for both boys but I'm pretty sure it's not expired.  It's a chicco key fit 30, but I guess I'll have to do a little more research.  I have seen what appears to be the exact same seat we have in babies r us recently.  The only reason I might upgrade is if I can find another infant seat that is just as safe, or safer, that is more narrow.  We somehow have to fit 3 seats across in dhs Prius V.

  • I reused my Snugride 35 with DD. It's still not expired, so I'll use it for this LO too.

I regret buying the 35. My DS at almost 3 is still only 30lbs. clearly my peanut children did not need a high weight limit, lol.

  • This is the third kid I'll be using our infant seat for. It's still fine and and nowhere near expired.

Agree. I like the seat for the most part, but it's HEAVY and I think we moved him the convertible around 9 months and he only weighed like 18 lbs or something. Oh well, live and learn!

  • We will reuse. We have a Chico Keyfit 30 and were very happy with it. It hasn't expired yet.

we did the exact same thing b/c DS was so tall.  DD stuck it out for about a year and then we moved her to our other convertible.  But yeah, seriously it weighs a ton. But I'm not replacing a perfectly good carseat, lol.

never considered buying another one. We have a Chicco Keyfit 30 with two bases bought in early 2012. I'm good to go! However, it's blue so if we have a girl I will have to tie a bow on it or something lol

  • We'll be reusing ours. It's less than 3 years old and never been in an accident. Plus we moved N into a convertible at 5-ish months, so I figure it has been lightly used and probably will be this time around, too.
