Holy cow. This article, written by a very talented family friend =0), is just heartbreaking. F was full-term, and I'm thankful every day for that. I cannot even imagine having a preemie, and let alone dealing with this nonsense on top of it.

The article is pretty long, so just to summarize there's apparently a critical shortage of the nutrients given intravenously to preemies, as well as, some children and adults. Apparently, a lot of times the parents aren't even aware that their kid isn't getting what he or she ought to be getting. Without these nutrients, the kids are at risk for developing a whole range of serious health issues down the road. Apparently the manufacturers don't prioritize producing these nutrients because they are not very profitable for them.
I'm writing my congressman, and I hope you'll consider doing the same. Ask them to put pressure on the FDA to use the power it has to address drug shortages. Or ask them to consider whether there is some legislation that could help. Maybe just fund manufacture of this stuff. Share it with your circles of friends, too.
Have you all heard about this issue before? Am I just behind the ball?
