I am being told my baby (my third) should be born via c-section because she may be too large... I dont want to. I want to try a vaginal birth, but feel like they have scared me, and I don't want to make the wrong decision for my baby.
My second was 10 lbs and delivery was MUCH easier than with my first who was just under 8. Since it is your 3rd, I would assume you can deliver her vaginally, How big do they think she is?
Mine was 9 lbs 14 oz. It was my first and I had to be induced but I only had an hour of pushing. I tore and the dr cut me but I was walking in 2 hours. C section you will not be obviously.. I would tell your dr that you want to at least try.
Firstly, weight estimations can be way off. Plus, ACOG does not recommend induction or CS based on size alone, so I would tell my OB no. Both of my babies were "measuring large" and I delivered both vaginally; they ended up being around 8 lbs. each so not huge, despite measuring in the 75th-90th percentile based on u/s.
Yes! My first was 8 lbs, but my 1 month old was 10 lbs 8 oz. I will say that both babies my doctor was spot on with weight ultrasounds, within an ounce. My 10lber was any easier recovery then my 1st so yes it can be done. I pushed for only about a half hour and only had a small tear.
I worked like a mofo to get DS out. 3.5 hours of pushing after a 32 hour labor. I was effing exhausted. LO? I pushed for 18 minutes. He had shoulder dystocia for roughly 30-45 seconds, nothing major, and his collarbone didn't have to be broken. He had no lasting effects other than a little bruising that went away not even 24 hours later. My L&D delivering a "large" baby was so much easier and better than my average sized DS.
They talked about a c-section with me before. Don't let anyone scare you into agreeing to something that may or may not be necessary. Should an emergency occur, they will be equipped to handle it. There is a risk either way, you just have to find out what is best for you and your family.
You've already pushed 2 babies out of your vagina. There is no way I would let a doctor section me based on a "big baby." If you want to get the baby in the best position possible for delivery, you could try chiro/acupuncture and spinningbabies.com. Move around a lot when you're in labor. My sister was 7lbs, I was 8lbs, and my 2 younger brothers were both over 10lbs and my mom delivered us all vaginally. You can do it! If you try to push and the baby doesn't come out, it has very little to do with the size of the baby. Take it from an L&D nurse - it's all about positioning.
How big are they predicting your baby to be? Late term u/s are notoriously inaccurate anyway, and measuring fundal height isn't much better.
I just had my first on 4/3 and yes, he was a big baby... born at 9lbs 8 oz, 21.5 inches long. I did tear a little, but in went the stitches and it wasn't as big a deal as I feared.
My DD2 was 9lbs 12 oz. I did end up having a c-section after a failed VBAC but I just wanted to say that those size ultrasounds can be VERY off. My LO was born the day after her due date. They estimated that she would be 7.5 lbs, so they were over 2 lbs. off (and I had 2 size ultrasounds)!
DS was 9lbs7oz and was a far easier labor, delivery and recovery from DD who was 7lbs7oz. I pushed twice and he was here. No freaking way would I opt for surgery based on weight estimates.
Re: Did anyone on here deliver a large baby vaginally?
My baby was 9 lb 7 oz,
also this is a 13 lb 13.5 oz first baby from my hometown https://bc.ctvnews.ca/b-c-family-welcomes-very-big-bundle-of-joy-1.570480
DS was 7.7 but LO was just over 9 lbs.
