My 10 week old seems to be very hyperactive.. When's he's not crying and stiffening his legs or flailing his arms.. He is sitting and moving all of his limbs kinda looks likened is running.. He seems to constantly be moving around.. Is anyone else's baby like this? Sometimes he gets into a panic where he stiffens his legs and cries and will bang his head on my shoulder.. Other times he is content but will still be moving.. Is this normal?
Re: Hyperactive 10 week old?
My son moves so much during the day, he won't stay in a moby wrap. He usually coos/gurgles/yells with so much kicking and arm flailing. Last night at 1am he was doing this for an hour...then pro?eeded to sleep for 7 hours. He has always been like this since birth.. kicking and flailing his arms. Nurses said he was very alert.
Right now at 7 weeks today, he is trying to control his limb flailing.. it is cute, he kicks the one leg that is touching something...or if his arms extend and touch something he will retract and extend over and over until his finger grabs something.
He just came out of the wonder week that allows him to discover "patterns". One of those patterns is how his body works, and he's realizing, on a level, that he can control some of those movements. There are a lot of skills that babies learn after these developmental spurts, and since they can't practice them all at the same time, they focus intently on a couple. Some babies focus more on the physical aspect.
My LO is the same way. She's SO crazy active. She's 10 weeks as well, and has started pushing off with her feet, so she scooches constantly. She's also started moving her arms out and in towards her body, and kicking her feet out in her own little pattern. If you watch you'll see he's trying to coordinate those movements. And my LO moves when she's happy, mad, sad, etc. The only times she doesn't move is when she's in a deep sleep-even in her light sleep cycle that little monster is everywhere. We have to double swaddle her because she breaks out of EVERYTHING.
And he might be gassy. LO is gassy but it's definitely not as bad as it used to be as her digestive system matures.....
This. That being said. DD#2 is 9 weeks and so much more active than DD#1 was at this age. She is ALWAYS moving unless she's in a deep sleep.
