Any LO's Pottytrained?

I know a few of you were attempting PT, how's it going? What is everyone doing to prepare?

Re: Any LO's Pottytrained?

  • Nope, we've attempted it and she wears the detachable seat as a hat and necklace so I'm thinking she isn't quite ready.

Unless taking a dump on Grandma's lawn counts, we are nowhere near ready.

    Omg! Hilarious!

  • I was JUST about to ask a Potty Training related question!

DD is slowly starting to get the concept, and finally has the word "potty" down. She sometimes tells me, usually not.

We have a diaper subscription where every month I get a box of diapers. I think it's a bit more than a "month's worth" to be honest bc I have a TON of extra in my closet, so lately I've been slowing it down to every other month.

I'm wondering at which point I should stop my subscription completely. Should I let my supply dwindle down and see if I need more when I get close to being out?

My preference would be to train straight to undies and skip pullups. So far the only place with 18-24 month OR 2T sized undies for DD's tiny little bottom is Gymboree. Most places I've looked start undie sizes at 4T.

Sorry, that's waaayy more than one question. I just know very little about potty training.

I'd stop the dipe subscription.  In a pinch, you can run out and grab a set of dipes.

I had a TON of success with the naked PT method.  No clothes, LOTS of fluids with frequent trips eminders to use the potty.  We used a free-standing frog potty.  We rewarded pee and poop in the potty with mini marshmallows or M&Ms.

Target has 2T-3T underwear.  I would skip pull-ups.  Overnight we used CDs until he was pee free for about a month.  Then, we ventured into overnight underwear wearing.  He's only woken up wet once in over 20 months he's been PT'd.

Good luck to you.  It's liberating and terrifying at the same time when the finally become PT'd.

  • Not. Even. Close. I swear, this kid would happily, cluelessly sit in a dirty diaper all day. We're not stressing it though, and are going to wait until he shows signs of being ready before attempting anything.

  • Not even close!   Waiting until after we get settled with the new baby, then we're going to start working on it around DD's 2nd bday.

Maybe the 2T/3T size ones are always sold out when I go look? I can always try online.

  • We did some early exposure, so he was pooping in the potty frequently at around 7 months...and on weekends, we occasionally will do time in the Thomas underwear for funsies...but most of the time, he seems annoyed and put off by my suggestion for him to sit on the potty these days.  Just too busy playing.  I'm not pushing it at all...it's very relaxed.

  • I've just ramped it up in the last few days because dd has been announcing before she poops and pees.   She used the potty last night and has a few times before.  Our biggest challenge is that we're never home, so when she yells "pee pee!!" I just have to tell her to go in her diaper.  She is pretty terrified of the big potty.

i won't do anything more than letting her run around naked until baby comes.

  • DS goes pee on the potty regularly but is not anywhere near being fully trained. This summer I am going to do the 3 day method with him once I am off work. He tells me right before he pees so if I have the time to be consistent it may work. If not I will try again around Thanksgiving.

I'm afraid to respond to this post and jinx us.  Today was day four of underwear all day (except for nap time) and we're still accident free!  DS has been very interested in the potty for the last six weeks or so, and we'd been doing more and more naked time on the weekends at home.

I'd been holding out until summer to get "serious" about it, but he was really showing he was ready.  I mean, a couple weekends ago he asked to go potty while we were eating at Buffalo Wild Wings and peed and pooped in the restaurant bathroom.  He's been wanting his diaper off anytime he knows he needs to go, so I guess I felt like we had to seize the opportunity.

Because he's been really good about telling us when he needs to go, and after he stayed dry for a long road trip Saturday and asked to go potty when out and about, we realized that we should quit prolonging things and just go for it.

I'm kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop, because I feel like it shouldn't have been this easy.  So here's hoping that I'm not borrowing trouble by posting this! I should clarify that he's still wearing diapers when he sleeps and he does wake up wet from overnights.  Occasionally he's dry after naps, but not consistently.

    Holy novel!  Sorry!  :P

    That is awesome!
