CTS not going away after delivery

I had really bad carpal tunnel during my pregnancy. My twins are 4 weeks old tomorrow and while the pain and numbness in my fingers is pretty much gone, I still have terrible pain in both wrists. It seems to be getting worse as the girls get bigger and heavier.

Did this happen to anyone else? All I heard during the pregnancy was that it goes away after delivery, but Dr. Google is now advising me that I will need surgery. If anyone had surgery, how bad was the recovery? Were you able to lift and carry your babies afterward?

Mine didn't go away until my girls were about 12 weeks old. It was miserable.

I plan to talk to my OB at my six week checkup. I wonder if she'll refer me to a specialist... She knows I had CTS while pregnant and was always very relaxed about it.

I was the same way. Think it took months for it to completely go away. Hope you get some relief soon.

I also had it for months after delivery. There are lots of options before surgery - have you tried wearing a brace at night or physical therapy? Surgery takes 2 months to recover from and in that time I bet it would resolve on its own.

Good luck - it's so miserable!

thank you... I have a brace but find it hard to use my hands when wearing it. I'll see what my OB says and might look into PT!

Keep wearing the brace. it's kind of the point to make certain movements harder so you are forced to rest the wrist. you will get used to it if you continually wear them. it's really one of the best ways to recover. i have lots of ergonomic issues with my wrists and i can tell you, babies are not ergonomic!

My PT told me to wear mine at night if nothing else because your body heals while you sleep

mine started out around 20 weeks pg with tingling and numbness in my hands when I slept. I got some wrist guards and those helped... Then it turned to pain in my wrists and fingers and I had trouble making a fist, especially first thing in the morning. Now post partum, my fingers are fine but the pain in my wrists and at the point where my hand meets my wrist is really bad.

Good luck, I hope you're able to get some relief.
