Vitamin D and DE/DEmbryo implantation

I had an insane amount of blood work done back in April and I finally had the opportunity to talk to my RE about the results on Friday afternoon.

One result showed that I have a Vitamin D deficiency. My RE surprised me by saying that studies show strong evidence that Vitamin D deficiency can cause implantation issues for those using DE/DEmbryos. It seemed odd that she only mentioned this in the case of donor egg/embryo but I didn't think to prod further. She is prescribing Rx Vitamin D for 6-8 weeks then I'll be on a regular maintenance OTC dose after that.

She is the TPR director at my clinic and her specialty is donor issues so I trust her, but I thought this was interesting and had to share. If you haven't had your Vitamin D levels checked, it may be worth looking into with your RE. Every little bit helps, right? :)

I also had a Vitamin D deficiency when they did all my labs back in April. Evidently, according to my nurse "Vitamin D deficiency, it's all the rage these days!" Definitely have them check your levels...
SAIF/PAIF absolutely ALWAYS welcome to respond!

Before I started seeing my RE I'd asked my GYN to check my D levels and he said that it was expensive and I probably didn't have a deficiency anyway. Grr! I forgot about asking my RE to check it but definitely will before I do a donor cycle!

I hadn't heard about the connection with DE/embryos but I think pretty much everyone has a Vitamin D deficiency. I take 4000 IU of D3 a day though my endocrinologist recommends even more. It's also good for breast health and a number of other things.

I was encouraged by my acupuncturist to have it tested for that same reason--it can lead to implantation/miscarriage issues. She also said that nearly everyone in Ohio is deficient because of the lack of sun during the winter. I got my re to order the test and low and behold--I am very deficient. I had already started supplements before getting tested but upped to max dose.

My endo found a pretty significant deficiency in me, and recommended high dose supplementation.  FWIW, my DE FET cycle was successful even with very low D levels. It couldn't hurt to get tested and corrected for the many health benefits, however. My RE told me that a significant number of patients in his practice were deficient.

Well, here in Seattle we pop a Vitamin D everyday with our double tall Americanos :

But seriously, when I was pregnant my endocrinologist checked my thyroid T3 and T4, and Vitamin D every 3 weeks. It is expensive 83.37 negotiated insurance rate but I was ok with that. Before pregnancy, he had me take a 50,000 IU vitamin D once a week, while pregnant I took 5000 daily and do that now as we gear up for our FET. Thx Liz!!

No idea why this is so important for DE/DEmbryo cycles... Very interesting.

My PCP actually checked my level and it was actually fine... Was surprised I was actually in the normal category of something for once in my life.

    Me (32) DOR, elevated NK Cells/ 2 copies of MTHFR mutation/ MH (35) azoo/high DFI   (TTC#1 since 2009)

    IVFs#1-4: (4/10-2/12) all BFN

    Surprise Bfp (9/11) - c/p

    DS IVF: (11/12) - BFN

    DE/DS IVF#1: (10/13) - 2 day 3 embies transferred-BFFN

    FET of 2 day 6 blasts: (12/13) - c/p

    DE/DS IVF #2: (4/14) - 1 day 5 blast transferred...BFFN...again.

    FET 5/14: 1 day 5 hatching blast transferred...another BFFN

Repeat SHG 6/14-normal / Endometrial Receptivity Array biopsy 7/14-Receptive Uterus

New RE, additional testing reveals elevated NK Cells

FET of 1 day 5 blast (RE recommends transferring 1 due to elevated NK cells) with lovenox, steroids & intralipids in October
