Thumb Sucker

Anyone else have a thumb sucker?  DD will take a pacificer but once it falls out she will suck on her thumb.  Latley she will spit the pacificer out and immediatley stick her thumb in.  I don't want it to become a habit thats difficult to break later.  Advice? TIA

Re: Thumb Sucker

  • I don't think you can stop it. Some kids are Just thumb suckers and that is how they self soothe. My dd started suckingher thumb the same way; first when the pacifier fell out and then she preferred the thumb to the paci. She is now three and sucks her thumb when she is sleepy. I am sure the dentist won't be thrilled, but to me it isn't s big deal.

  • I agree with PP. There's not a whole lot you can do about it. DS was and still is a thumbsucker. He only does it when he's sleepy or doesn't feel well. I'm still not concerned about it, and neither is his pediatrician.

My DS WISHES he was a thumb sucker... He keeps going for it but ends up sucking on his knuckle instead. He won't take a paci, and just keeps trying for his thumb... DH and I sometimes feel guilty for laughing at him, but he's so deliberate and it's so cute! Haha
