LO having surgery tomorrow

So even though I'm never on here anymore (new job is kicking my butt!), I know I can count on this group to be supportive!  Plus, I'm nervous and have to let it out somewhere.

Littlest man is going into surgery tomorrow to have his testicle moved down. It's been undescended since birth and after waiting it out and meeting with a specialist, surgery is the best option at this point.

I know it's nothing major (thank God) - but as a Mom I freak out about anything with anesthesia.  So I'll take all T&Ps you can spare!  It is outpatient & only an hour - so I am sure everything will go smoothly.

(The part I'm dreading the most though?  The poor kid can't eat when he wakes up tomorrow. Sad  I going to feed him at 1am, so hopefully that will help.)

ugh! I hope it all goes well.

How long do you have to wait to feed him after he wakes up? Hopefully they can make sure he will hold it down quickly.

I don't know how long they'll wait.  I know they said they'll start with water first to see if he can keep that down before they go to formula. He's never had water before, but I'm guessing he'll be so hungry he'll drink anything!

DS1 had that done at 9 months old.  He started crawling the next day.  The surgery didn't even phase him.

I did wake him to feed him one last time and I'm glad I did.  I did the same when DS2 had to have surgery a few months ago.

    Thinking of you both!

Thank you! I have been wondering how he'll act afterwards since he's so active right now (crawling & pulling up.)

It really helps to hear how easy other experiences were. Thanks Andrea as well - glad to know it was easy for your nephew as well.

He slept ALL day and night after the surgery.  I forget what time we got home, but it was out patient, so he was pretty groggy and sleepy.  I put him in his crib right when we got home. He woke up for a bottle a few hours later and went right back to sleep for the rest of the night.  They told us to limit activity, but that's hard to do with a 9 month old!  And of course he would choose the very next day to start crawling.  LOL.

I know it's scary having your child operated on though (DS1 has had 3 surgeries and DS2 has had 1), so I understand completely how you're feeling.  Let us know how it goes!

  • Don't worry mama!  He's in the hands of experts!  DD has been under general anesthesia twice and both times they allowed us to feed her almost immediately.  She was happy going in and just seemed a little confused and hungry when she came out.  Food solved all her problems and she was back to usual pretty quick.  :)  Both times she also slept most of the day afterward, so that was secretly kind of nice (we went to lunch with her asleep the whole time!)
