2nd time mothers or those in 3rd trimester, should I remove my rings?

When or did you remove finger rings before your delivery?

Do most hospitals require you to have your jewelry off when delivering?

Some days, I cannot remove my ring already and I am not certain I'd be able to remove my ring at the hospital upon delivery time.

I haven't been able to wear my wedding and engagement rings since about week 10! My fingers just swell up too much during the day. As it is, rings I used to wear on my pointer or middle finger (or even my thumb) now only fit on my ring or middle finger-- when it's not hot out.

I wear my wedding and engagement rings on a chain-- when I wear them at all. As a nurse, I never wore them to work anyhow because they'd rip gloves, I'd worry about them coming off, and they're a magnet for germs.

I never had an issue with my rings getting stuck on my fingers. I don't think I had to take them off for delivery. It's only if you have to have a c/s that I think they require you to remove jewelry.

With DS1 my swelling got so bad that they came off a month or 2 before I delivered. With DS2 I took my rings off as I was headed out the door to the hospital.

I didn't have a swelling problem when pregnant with DD. In the very beginning when I found out I was pregnant tons of friends warned me that my fingers would swell and I wouldn't be able to wear my rings. So I bought a cheapie silver band a size bigger than my wedding ring. I took off my wedding ring and slipped the silver band on right before I left for the hospital and was allowed to keep it on throughout delivery. If I had to remove it and it got lost or stolen I really didn't care.

I've had mine off for a while now, because I'd occasionally have swelling at the end of the day and rings wete uncomfortable. They're in a safe place and I don't mind being ringless until after the baby's here. I did the same last time, so I have no idea what hospital policy is.

I've been having swelling off and on the past 2 weeks. My rings were so tight today that I couldn't stand it. I took them off 3 hours ago and there's still groove in my finger where they were. I think I'll keep them off until baby is here in September.

It may depend on your hospital, but mine had no requirements to remove jewelry. However, if you are already having some difficulty removing the rings at times, you may just want to stop wearing them now to be on the safe side. I did this during my first pregnancy since my wedding band is an eternity band and if it were to be cut off it could not be repaired. I went to macy's and found a fake set for $10 (which actually looked very similar to my real rings) because I just felt naked without rings. With my first pregnancy I took off my rings around the start of my third trimester. With my second I never had to take them off and so far this time around (knock on wood) I don't have the same swelling issues I had with my first.

Take them off! Be as comfortable as you can and you won't have to worry about losing them. That's my vote!

I'm trying to remember what I did with DS. I know I have pictures of us in the hospital with me wearing them so obviously they went with me. I honestly don't remember when I took them off - I was able to wear them just fine throughout my pregnancy.

I read this and tried to take my ring off. No dice.

It eventually came off with LOTS of soap, so now it's in the safe and will stay there until after I have the baby.

Same here. I am 36 weeks pregnant and I think I had to stop wearing mine about a month ago. I figure they are safer stashed away at home anyways then having to worry about them at the hospital.
