Pregnant after 35

2nd ultra sound at 8 1/2 weeks...hummmm...

So according to my doctor I had a high HCG level at 5 and ? weeks of 10,700?(doc said anything over 6000 was high for this stage) so they scheduled an ultra sound right away ? I was so excited to see something? well when I went in the ultrasound lady wouldn?t tell me anything except that every looked ?ok so far? and scheduled another one for the 31st of this month (so like 2 ? weeks later) ? why would they do another one two weeks later if everything looks ok??  this anticipation is killing me! 10 more days?10 more days? Surprise

Although it's easy to say and difficult to do, I wouldn't worry.  The U/S techs are not docs and really shouldn't provide you any more info than they did.  The docs read and interpret the scans.  If it was anything major, your OB would have contacted you.  We've had 2 miscarriages since November.  The tech told us when she did not see the heartbeat but she really couldn't tell us more than that.

We're hoping 3rd time's the charm - I'm 4 weeks right now.  So, I understand your trepidation completely!  Good luck!!

  • I am basically right there with you, almost to a tee!  My tech was more friendly cause my nurse instructed her to go ahead and tell me what she could because I am not type to freak out.  She kept repeating that I was prob just early and may have ovulated late....she couldn't find anything....My dr however wanted me back in a week and my NP snuck in and said to try and put it off for an extra week so just in case I did ovulate late that I had a better chance of seeing something.  My apt is tomorrow and I am starting to get really anxious...my husband can not go so I am going alone =(

Good Luck to you and keep us updated!!

Good luck to both of you, I know it's nerve wracking! My dr would never let me have an u/s without coming in and thoroughly explaining what was going on and what they saw, I guess I should consider myself lucky to have such a great dr! I'm sorry to hear that some people are left hanging, it's hard enough waiting to see what develops without being left in the dark. Hugs!

So did anyone tell you there was more than one? I would have been asking a lot of questions given the high beta.  Can't your doctor answer any questions for you based on his read? This sounds very frustrating and you are not really giving much information.

TTC since 3/2010. Me 41, DH-49. After 3 years, 6 IUIs and several IVFs we have finally have our beautiful baby girl, born on 11/7/13.

  • I asked and she wouldn't tell!  She said 'it's too soon to tell' grrrrr Tongue Tied

  • If you are worried it might be best to just call your doctor and ask questions to put your mind at ease.
