Boosters?

I have read a few places about ladies taking booster hcg shots after IUI in the 2WW. I didn't ask my RE about this but any idea why? Can someone explain this to me?

    According to my RE you get a booster depending on your cycle.  I am not sure I remember the reason why they give (I think something to do with the follicles or ovaries).  I never needed it though.
