Babies: 3 - 6 Months

More sleeping questions

Hello,

We swaddled my son until he was roughly 3.5 months... when he was able to roll.  (He sleeps in his crib).   Since then he's been unswaddled and we haven't had a full night of sleep.  He's over 5 months now.  We went directly to unswaddled baby... no transitions.  Now I'm thinking that maybe Merlins sleep suit may have been a good next step.  So, because of a moment of despiration, I bought one but I'm afraid to use it.  If we introduce this now, will we just regret it in a couple of months when we need to transition again?  Or, is it worth starting the merlin at this point?

 Opinions?

Re: More sleeping questions

  • I think we need to help them sleep the best they can so I'd use the suit or go back to the swaddle.

  • I agree with PP, but just an FYI the manufacturer states that the Merlin should be discontinued once LO can roll in it also. So I might put it on during the day for a bit to see if yours can do that first. DS has the Merlin and cannot roll in it yet, and sleeps very well and can go down drowsy but awake in it and put himself to sleep. I am nervous when we have to lose it, but by then we are most likely looking at some sleep training techniques anyway.

  • My son was in his until 7 months. He didn't wear the suit during naps, just at night. When we transitioned him out it took about 5 days for him to get use to the freedom. But magic sleepsuit is the best invention ever!
  • My daughter did great in hers however now it is too hot at night for her to be in it.  We don't have ac and her bedroom was in the high 70s last night.  Transitioning can be rough.
  • I would just use it now and worry about transition later.
We bought it and I'm currently nursing LO to sleep in it as i post this. She did good the first couple days and then was back to her bad sleeping. We still use it bc trying to get her down wo it is super hard and naps are even Shorter!
