Some of you may remember my post almost a month ago about my toddler who used to vomit in the car, and who also screams & cries every car ride even if it's only 5 minutes long.
Well...we turned her carseat around forward facing, and it immediately cured the carsickness problem. However, the constant screaming/crying for every car ride still persists. We have quite literally tried everything...toys, CDs, absolutely everything. I'm at the point where I don't ever want to leave the house, and it's making me depressed. I hoped this would be a phase (has been going on for many months now),but it is not showing any signs of fizzling out. I don't know what to do anymore. She does this even during the shortest of car rides.
Re: Stick a fork in me, I'm done. Call in Super Nanny.
Maybe the carsickness gave her a bad association with the car? If so, you need to erase the bad feelings and give her good ones to associate with the car. Do you have any friends with a convertible- maybe she'd find that fun and exciting.
Does she cry when she knows she's getting in the car or after she's strapped in? Are you sure the straps aren't cutting into her skin, nothing from the seat is poking her, the seat isn't hot, etc.? If you and your H is in the car, have you tried sitting in the back with her or reaching over and holding her hand?
Have you tried giving her a snack and drink in the car? LO is usually pretty distracted by food.
I'm sure you already checked to make sure the straps aren't hurting her? Have you had her ears checked to make sure that movement isn't causing her to feel icky/fluid in ears?
How about her favorite snack in the car? Sometimes I have to bribe DS2 with that.
Could you rent a car for a couple of days to give her a new atmosphere??
You tried a DVD player? How about a hand-held game like those things you scribble on and erase? Or a little table that goes on their laps and she could color or eat snacks?
