Exterminator?

This is the weirdest post ever.

We just moved from the city to the suburbs last year and it's our first spring in our new house.  We have been having so many bugs...nothing deadly or anything but ants, beetles, spiders, etc.  I am hugely terrified of all of them but admittedly it's nothing that could kill anyone.  Would you hire an exterminator to spray?  I feel like I can't do it knowing DS is crawling around on the floor all the time and they spray the baseboards.  At the same time I wonder if maybe I am being a bit neurotic and if it's worse to have him crawling around with freaking spiders and beetles.

Thoughts?

Re: Exterminator?

  • I don't have them spray the inside of our house, only outside. They go around the edge of our house and patio. You'd be surprised with the difference it makes.

When we moved from the city to the North Shore area I felt like I had descended into an insect exhibit.  I mean, seriously, what are some of these things?  We had things in our basement (which we technically referred to as "jumpy things") that were some sort of noiseless cricket.  I kid you not.

Anyway, like PP, we just had the outside of the house sprayed - I think they called it "perimeter treatment" or something like that.  We also put out sticky traps in the (unfinished) basement rafters for the extra jumpy things.  Both helped a LOT.  Good luck,

Twice a year (once in the Fall and again in the Spring) DH sprays Ortho Home Defense around the perimeter of the house and it works great!  We don't get spiders or any other kinds of bugs in the house (basement included) - it's awesome!  GL!

For inside, just get the ant or beetle traps.  They work really well and fast if you are uncomfortable with the spraying.

We have a bug guy who comes every month to spray inside (just along the hot spots, windows, and doors) and outside. He's been coming for years, and he makes sure everything is safe for DD and the dogs. In our arid environment, it's a must, especially for the scorpions.
