Hi.  So I will have my BETA on Thursday for IUI #3 with Clomid. I assume it will be negative again.  If so we are moving on to IUI with injects.  If I get the call from my RE that its NEG I want to be prepared to ask questions.  Please help.
We are unexplained if that matters.  My insurance covers 3 rounds of the same injectable lifetime.  Trying to figure out how not to waste all of my coverage incase we get to IVF.  Please share your experience or answer questions below.
1) What injects did you take with IUI? What injects are commonly prescribed with IUI?
2) When in your cycle and for how long did you take them?
3)  How many shots did you have to do a day? ( I spoke with someone who took 4 a day and they were 75ml each I guess?)
4) If you took Clomid prior did you respond about the same?  I had 3-4 follicles with Clomid.
5) What side effects did you experience?
6) What are the benefits of injects over Clomid/Femera?  I know Clomid thins your lining.
Any info will be much appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

IVF #1 began August 2013- BC, 4 days of Estrace, stimmed with Gonal F and Menopur, Ganirelix, 9R 5M 5F, Medrol and Doxycycline, 5 day transfer of 2 early blastocysts- good quality, Progesterone, Estrace, and baby aspirin, BETA on 9/20 BFN,   IVF #2 began September 2013, stimming with Gonal F (higher dose) and Menopur, Ganirelix, 18R 14M 9F with ICSI, 5 day transfer of 2 BBs one was starting to hatch, 2 frosties: 1  BB and 1 AC, BETA on 10/21, BFN BETA was a 5- chemical
Getting some more testing and trying to figure out what the issue is before FET in December, started acupuncture on 11/10, RLP and some other BW nothing major to report except slightly high Prolactin. Prolactin was slightly high when I started with my RE and I already had an MRI which was Neg.  Endo biopsy=negative.  WTF is wrong with us???
12/18/13 FET of 1 BB and 1 AC.  Hoping for a miracle.  Beta 12/26 Low BETA-8 2nd BETA 5- chemical
After 3 failed transfers IDK where to go from here.  Still no real answers as to why this isn't working.  Getting a second opinion in February and looking into immune testing.
2/14- NEW RE- Immune testing showed a partial dq alpha match with DH- On prednisone and did intralipids prior to transfer.  3/14 Lupron, gonal f, menopur, HGH.  ER 15 mature all 15 fertilized!  5dt of an early blast grade 1 and an expanded blast grade 2.  BETA on 4/21.  1 grade 2 embryo frozen

Re: IUI with Injectables- TEACH ME
1) What injects did you take with IUI? What injects are commonly prescribed with IUI?
I am currently in my first injects cycle. I did follistim.
2) When in your cycle and for how long did you take them?
CD3-CD9 (went for monitoring on CD10 and triggered that night)
3) How many shots did you have to do a day? ( I spoke with someone who took 4 a day and they were 75ml each I guess?)
Just 1! I got a pen and it was awesome. Just put the cartridge in, click to the dose and administer. Super easy.
4) If you took Clomid prior did you respond about the same? I had 3-4 follicles with Clomid.
I took Femara for 3 cycles before that, had 2 follies x 2, 1 follie x 1. On Follistim I had 2.
5) What side effects did you experience?
Bloating. On CD8 and 9 I also had headaches and nausea.
6) What are the benefits of injects over Clomid/Femera? I know Clomid thins your lining.
More follicles. I could have done another Femara cycle but opted not since the last one I only got one follicle. No impact on lining. Also in theory, if you don't get KU with IUI and move on to IVF then they already know how you respond to injectibles and can plan better (vs. IUI with oral meds).

*everyone welcome*
I took Bravelle injection (75ml) daily at night in stomach (DH would inject me) - starting the night of CD 3 ( had gone for first ultrasound/bloodwork that morning to rule out cysts). I injected 9 days of Bravelle and when ultrasound showed mature follicles, I was told to inject 1 Ovidrel (trigger) that night. Next two mornings had IUI procedure.
I am squeamish so DH took the training class and he injected me. I had cramps, slight twinges in abdomen and bloating through out the 10 days. I was told to take progrsterone suppositories for the 2WW (one daily) and then beta at 14 days past IUI, I did get AF both times at 12 days past IUI though.
Ive never taken clomid but I chose injects/IUI because Dr told me there are higher success rates with injects than clomid.
Good luck !
Trying since Jan 2011. Unexplained IF.

1) What injects did you take with IUI? What injects are commonly prescribed with IUI? I took Gonal F my first combo cycle, and Follistim for my last two and the injects cycle that I'll start tomorrow
2) When in your cycle and for how long did you take them? I don't remember for all, my last cycle and this cycle I start on cd4 because that's when my baseline was able to get in (since I started both that period and this on over a weekend).
3) How many shots did you have to do a day? I take one shot a day of 75iu of follistim, usually for seven days. I start monitoring on cd7 (or after three nights of shots), have another on cd9, and a finally on cd11 at which point I'm ready to trigger usually.
4) If you took Clomid prior did you respond about the same? I had one to three follies (usually one good one and two close to 16mm when trigger, so not sure if they caught up, or two follies actually which is why I say one to three).
5) What side effects did you experience? On injects? None really except for the pain of growing follies.
6) What are the benefits of injects over Clomid/Femera? I've been told that injects is more quality growing eggs because of how it's done. Clomid signals your brain to release the hormone to grow the egg, whereas injects is the hormone itself...no middle man if you will. And as you mentioned, I had to stop clomid due to thin lining - and had nice thick fluffy lining on injects. And you can easily adjust dosage on injects up or down any day - on clomid the only adjustment you can do is if it's not working do stair step.
IUI#4 1/23/13 on 75iu x9 Follistim = BFP then chem preg m/c (Feb 2013)
IUI#5 BFN (April 2013)

My Blog
1) What injects did you take with IUI? What injects are commonly prescribed with IUI?
Follistim was the only medication I took for IUI's
2) When in your cycle and for how long did you take them?
I started on CD 3, and took a shot daily until I was ready to trigger. I think the first cycle I triggered on CD 10, the second on CD 11.
3) How many shots did you have to do a day? ( I spoke with someone who took 4 a day and they were 75ml each I guess?)
I just did one shot of Follistim per day. My first cycle the dosage was 50 IU each day. The second cycle I started with 2 days of 75 IU, and then dropped to 50 IU each day after that.
4) If you took Clomid prior did you respond about the same? I had 3-4 follicles with Clomid.
Never did Clomid
5) What side effects did you experience?
None
6) What are the benefits of injects over Clomid/Femera? I know Clomid thins your lining.
I never had any side effects or thin lining with injects. My RE prefers them because he can alter the dosage easily (daily) if needed.

It's a BOY!
1) What injects did you take with IUI? What injects are commonly prescribed with IUI? IUI #1 was a combo of Fermara & Follistim. Current IUI is straight Follistim
2) When in your cycle and for how long did you take them? 1st IUI I started Fermara on CD5 (can't remember how many I took after that) and I think I started the Follistim (75 ius) on CD7 and did that every other day for 3 days, then ultra sound, then one more dose.
Current IUI - Follistim (150ius) on CD6 & 7, then an E2 blood test....more if needed
3) How many shots did you have to do a day? ( I spoke with someone who took 4 a day and they were 75ml each I guess?) 1 time per day on both IUIs
4) If you took Clomid prior did you respond about the same? I had 3-4 follicles with Clomid. No Clomid. 1 possibly 2 follicles on 1st IUI
5) What side effects did you experience? NONE :-)
6) What are the benefits of injects over Clomid/Femera? I know Clomid thins your lining. Heard horror stories about Clomid, so I am glad my RE advises skipping it and going straight to Follistim. I have not had any bad side effects on Follistim. Injections are super easy once you get past the 1st one.
1) What injects did you take with IUI? What injects are commonly prescribed with IUI?
I have taken both Follistim and Gonal-f but I had a better response to Gonal-f
2) When in your cycle and for how long did you take them?
It has varied a little bit...with the Follistim I only took the injects for about 5 days but this last cycle I took the Gonal-f injects once a day for about a week and a half. It depends on how your follicles are growing and it can change how much and how often you take them depending on how things look at your monitoring appointments.
3) How many shots did you have to do a day? ( I spoke with someone who took 4 a day and they were 75ml each I guess?)
I only did 1 a day
4) If you took Clomid prior did you respond about the same? I had 3-4 follicles with Clomid.
I did not respond to Clomid at all and so far I have had between 1-3 mature follicles with injects.
5) What side effects did you experience?
I have had zero negative side effects with injects.
6) What are the benefits of injects over Clomid/Femera? I know Clomid thins your lining.
I felt so depressed and sad when I was on cClomid and I had physical symptoms as well. I feel so much more stable when I am on injects. I have nothing but positive things to say about injects....well, minus the price !
GL to you!

Thanks. I use Freedom Pharmacy. I can only refill 3 times. So its my best bet to order the most allowable. However they can't tell you the most allowable so its tricky. If my prescription gets increased twice and I have to order again my coverage will be gone. I need to order more the first time.
