Trouble TTC

Spotting (BFP mentioned)

Update: spotting is all gone now and I'm feeling much better. Thanks for the help everyone!  I'm really going to miss everyone, but I will be lurking and checking in on you all!

HI girls, I hope its ok that I post about this here, because I just wanted to talk to the ladies that know me most. Of course I wont continue to post here much longer, but I'm hoping some of you may have some advice or calming words. As you know I got a BFP on Wednesday. I had a beta done on Thursday and I finally got the first results Friday afternoon. Beta was 83 and my progesterone was 53. I think those are both good numbers, but last night I started cramping and then this morning started spotting. I'm not sure if it make a difference, but it was brown spotting and not red. How worried should I be? I'm going to rest all day and pray this stops.

ETA: Also in case anyone was wondering, Scbedi  has offered to take over being in charge of the Monthly Siggy Challenges, so she will be doing those. I was also posting the 5 Things Thursday pretty regularly so someone might want to keep that going also. And I'm so sorry that the top 4 threads this morning are all relating to BFPs. I didn't realize that or I wouldn't have posted. That's a lot to take in first thing in the morning.

Neither of my m/c's started with brown spotting. It was straight to red blood

Take a deep breath and relax. I can't imagine how difficult this must be right now!

Thank you for the response. I was hoping brown spotting shouldn't mean the worst.

Thank you for the reply. Its not getting worse but it is still there.  I now know a glimpse of what you ladies have been through and that pregnancy feels so real the very moment you see the second line. It doesn't matter that it is still really early. This baby is real, and you are a mother from day one. My heart hurts to think of all the losses many of you have had.

Brown spotting is normal.  I had brown spotting (enough that I was going through two pantiliners a day) for two weeks and it just up and stopped right around the six week mark.  I had an u/s at 6 weeks 5 days  and everything looked great.  The spotting hasn't returned.  My doctor told me unless it turned red or I started passing tissue, not to worry about it.

I know this is very scary - try not to freak out too much - harder said than done.  I know, I've been there twice! I always heard that spotting was "common" early in pregnancy and would always roll my eyes - but have you started checking out your BMB yet?  At least once a day, during weeks 4-10, there would be posts about spotting.  9 times out of 10 when it was brown the women ended up just fine.  It really is common - even though it doesn't seem that way.

Also, sometimes red can be okay too.  Not norma, but not necessarily a sign of a miscarriage.  I had brown that went into red (and a lot of it!), but it turned out to be a blot clot that will likely heal itself.  So, if it does turn into red - just know it doesn't mean the absolute worst either...I just wanted to say that b/c I wish somebody had told me before it happened to me :)

I'll be thinking about you girl - stay strong!!

Thanks so much for your insight! I read about what you went through on the grad post. That is insane and I'm so sorry you had to worry like that. yikes!!!!  I hope that is all over soon for you.

I'm feeling much better now and the spotting has stopped. I just kinda freaked when I saw it this morning. Its funny, I know TONS about IF and not really anything about pregnancy!  Gotta get to reading! Oh and I just joined the BMB and see others talking about it too. Thanks again!

I know you have to be more than a little worried right now, but spotting can be a very normal part of a healthy pregnancy. I know no less than at least 5 people IRL who had spotting not only at the very beginning of their pregnancies but several months in as well. All of whom carried their pregnancies to term and had happy healthy babies. For instance my mother had a flow similar to her normal period for the first three months of her first pregnancy (that one resulted in my brother), so much so that she was over three months before she even knew she was pregnant at all. She went to the dr. thinking she had the flu. My bff's mother had a flow like her normal period for her entire pregnancy, but she was also about 16 and had twins. The very fact that it is brown and not red is also a very good sign. It's probably just old blood lingering. Just try to breath and not worry yourself too much til you can get in for another beta.
