NBR...dedicating workouts?

Maybe I'm missing something or maybe I'm just a biatch but when did we start dedicating our runs, our "training" (the avg joe not even a professional), ect to people? I keep seeing on FB people dedicating this and that...wtf?  Though I never see my old school running friends or professional friends doing this...just seems to be the attention whores...

Re: NBR...dedicating workouts?

  • My friend just had a bike race in memory of her dad who was hit on his bike a few months ago.  It seemed appropriate, as he was an avid cyclist. This is the only thing I've seen dedicated like that, but I'm not on FB so I am kinda out of the loop.

Who are the people dedicating their runs/training to?

  • One girl dedicates almost every run to something in the news. She runs daily! Another girl works out with a trainer and she dedicates her training to people on the news or people in her life or past life...I get running a race or something but daily exercises?  I work out with a trainer too but I certainly don't workout for anyone other than myself and my kids and I certainly wouldn't post about it all the time.  I have a hard Time believing anyone cares that I made it to the gym!  And this dedicating is new for these people not exercising.

I had mentioned my friends who are actual paid athletes and they do not do this, nor are the true fitness people I know...there are a few others and I think its an attention thing.

  • Strange. Never heard if that.

  • Although I think it's totally weird, unless its an actual run/race kind of thing, maybe it's a motivator for them? Maybe if I told myself I was "running for so and so" I'd run a little longer, a little faster. But to post it on FB everyday, that's a little much. But I also think posting every detail of every workout on Facebook is a little strange too. Maybe because I don't work out?
