Whole milk help

My good friend has a LO 3 months younger and he does not like whole milk. She can not get him to drink it at all. She mixed BM and that didn't work, she has tried chocolate also but that isn't working either. I thought I would see if anyone else had any ideas she could try. TIA

Nolan really doesn't like whole milk.  I have asked my pedi about it a bunch of times and she isn't concerned.  He typically drinks about 8-10 ounces of milk per day.  I nursed until he was 14 months and I noticed that his WCM intake increased a little after he was weaned.  I just try to make sure he gets his calcium from other places.  I do homemade smoothies a lot (yogurt and frozen fruit), cheese, and broccoli.  Also, Earth's Best makes yogurt pouches that he loves and it has 20-25% of the daily calcium intake per pouch.  My pedi said as long he was getting 2-3 servings of calcium per day he would be fine.  His weight has been great so I guess she is right :)

  • Allison has had maybe 10 ounces of milk in her entire life.  It isn't a big deal as long as your friend's LO is getting in the fat and other nutrients that whole milk provides (try full fat yogurt and cheese).

Our pedi said it isn't a big deal as long as she gets in enough fluids overall.

  • It took a while for LO to accept whole milk. I started by giving breast milk mixed with just a little whole milk and had to slowly increase the amount of whole milk. It took weeks if not over a month to get to the point that it was just whole milk. I also had to warm up the milk. Now she loves it and will drink it all day if she could.
  • We also had to heat LO's WCM in the beginning or he would NOT take it. Now I believe he would drink it straight from the cow! lol

Exactly this. Her child will be just fine if he never drinks WCM. Mine doesn't, either.

  • DD wouldn't touch WCM. We switched to 2% and she drinks it well. We also have those portable Horizon milks for the diaper bag that are 1% and she will suck one of those down so fast! Seems she doesn't like the thickness of milk.

I wonder if your friend could try that if she wants him to have milk?

  • I started with 1 then switched to 2. She gets wcm at dc but 2 at home. That way my other kids can drink the same milk.
